Paul I agree a leak proof later model is quite achievable.
A leak proof series ummm NO!! not without profound dedication and patience.

A leak free D2 is perfectly achievable with a bit of TLC.

Excuses, excuses My old man manages to put together 1920's and 1930's vehicles that don't drop oil.

My D2 is currently has a small oil patch on the sump gasket, but it's not currently enough to do more than dampen the sump flange. I've got a gasket ready to do change but have been a bit slack.

The TC case has a dusty/oily patch at the top rear near the PTO cover that doesn't seem to get any worse. The TC has to come out as it's getting pretty noisy and had a lot of metal in the oil at last change 20K km ago.

There is also a mystery oil leak that is wicking up the auto harness into the wiring behind the handbrake that I need to sort.

In the D2's at least a leak is a pretty good indicator that something needs attention.

    cheers
    Paul

    Young dragon...

Possible parts list for you to repair your leaks.

    Cam cover gasket LVP000020
    Oil filter housing gasket LVH100230
    Oil drain gasket LRJ100000
O ring oil cooler hsg ERR7098
    Oil cooler gasket ERR7220
    Exh manifold gskt LKG100470
    Turbocharger gskt ERR6768
    Exh flange gskt ESR 3737

Standard exhaust manifold studs and nuts are readily available, but consider upgrading to M10 (from M8 std).

Use a high quality sealing compound on the gaskets where necessary.

A bit fiddly, but about a 3 hour all up job. And you might need that exhaust manifold faced flat.

    Info

'Tis indeed! While you're there, get the RAVE 2 for your D2.

I use the software on an old 32 bit notebook. All up, about $80. Naughty, but nice.

thanks pierre i am a bit concerned with getting that manifold off, not sure how to get into it. dad has tools to get out broken bolts but weather or not tool easy to get in, but then pulling other bits off might make it easier to get to. will prbably take me a good week if i manage at all with my disabilities. but going to give it a dam good shot after i collect bits i need. have been recommended the M10 upgrade. thought about facing as well.
thanks again checking out daves interesting things!
also thought i had my sisters broken freelander sussed but evidently not silly thing misfiring at 2000 rpm!!
