Have you actually checked for spark at the plugs?
Just asking because everything else points to a dying fuel pump (it can pump when dying, just with a lower pressure than what's needed).
Coming back from Albury after 4 weeks leave, come out of the Burnley tunnel in Melbourne and the 4wd stutters a little, not thinking much with fuel at about qtr it was acting as if it was maybe lower than indicated, drive to Cranbourne no further Issue. coming back however the issue seemed to get worse at the Lights was idl rough and putting the foot down, seemed to not want to go.
Get to my 2nd destination at Rowville, and the car stoped as i started to reverse..?? Pop the bonnet and straight away I noticed that the #4 Spark plug Lead was cactus, the end was cracked and when i moved it of it crumbled and broke. I then check the others and the one next to it #6 Lead was the same, all cracked. I noticed that the end of the leads were white in colour ? (as Per Pic).
So I bought new Leads, put them in last night, tried to start it, Its cranks over but won't fire. Fuel is coming through but nothing........... I downloaded a Lead diagram to make sure the leads were connected to the coils correctly and it seems to be right, but still nothing.
I have looked around to posssible causes and could be the Coil/s or CPS-Crank Position Sensor.
So Now its booked into AMV at Ringwood. I have heard they are very good, My Dad takes his Disco there all the time, any issues he has, his on the ph picking their brains.
Has anyone else had a similar problem ? if so what was your result.

I took a plug out to see spark when i crank if there was any spark, but may have not been doing it right and the fact it wouldnt start, I was cracking thebad .
When I pulled the plug out I could smell fuel but guess that don't mean anything.
I just hope that driving it like that hasnt stuffed something up big elsewhere.
I've given up on it, I get home from work and its dark so makes it hard to tinker with. So im leaving it to the Pro's, see what they say.
Those leads are simply seriously cactus. A new set plus probably change the plugs will see a great improvement. Get them to test it with a new MAF as well for a comparison. It doesn't (by appearances at least) seem to have a great service history so these are some basics that go wrong. Plugs that are supposed to last 100,000k's, so leads get left as well. Have a look at the air filter as well, might be a surprise waiting.
spark? yes? if no, crank engine and check tacho,, needle moves? yes=crank angle sensor working no =usually the sensor gives a bit of warning,, just like the symptoms you've mentioned

New Plugs were put in Nov 2012, the Leads were new when serviced mid yr june/July, Its always servied by the Dealer when its due, so its never been neglected.
Im not worrying about it as AMV have it to look at on Tuesday, I'll let you guys know what the problem is, though I have apretty good idea of it given what it is and isnt doing.

How did you go changing the leads? I had to replace just 1 a few months ago but could not get access to the coil pack without removing the inlet manifold. Real pain.
Looking at your leads I would be looking for other faults, I don't believe that is normal degradation. They have been very hot at some stage, so fuel pump would be first guess.
OK... The Issue was the Fuse Box under the Dash was rooted. Apparently AMV havnt seen a fault or issue like this b4. But its been Fixed and tested So im very happy with that, New Fuse Box and a quick look over and it was all good.

Mine too mate, fuse box, last thing to look at as rare and hard to diognose, painful hey
What was the cause and actual failure point of the box?
