    Question ARB Crush Cans

    I tapped the front of my D2 into a fence the other week, scratched the bullbar and a small dent. Took it off today to find that I have partially crushed both crush cans (I'm assuming they have to be completely replaced and can't just be pulled back out).

    Waiting for the local ARB reseller to get back to me next week (Tuesday at the earliest as public holiday here) about price and availability. In the meantime, if anyone else in here has replaced these, can you give me a rough idea what sort of dollars the replacements cost?

    You sure? Must have been one hell of a tap. Have a look at someone else's crush cans first?.....

    All the bolt holes have a fair bit of adjustment in them, haven't just moved in on the holes?

    Yes, I am sure. The bullbar got some damage to the paint in a few spots, a dent on the driver side below the fog light, the chrome aluminium loop bar above is dented and will need to be replaced, and I broke the UHF antenna.

    They are not crushed all the way in, but they have definitely started to be pushed back. The tops have been pushed in and the bottoms haven't, so the bar is sitting on a bit of an angle.

    No idea, hence this thread...

    I rang ARB reseller up here, but being a Saturday they weren't interested told me to call back during the week. Monday is a public holiday here, so I guess Tuesday I'll find out for sure. But I'd like to know what others have paid for them to ensure that I'm not getting ripped off by some special Tassie price...

    I didn't realise the vehicle had them. I'm kind of surprised. As the Sahara bar is a winch bar, so I'm surprised when winching it doesn't pull them straight again or something. I also had my recovery points mounted where the bullbar fits onto the crush cans, so that probably wasn't the greatest place.
    Also of interest is the bullbar has 10 bolts securing it to the crush cans, but the crush cans have only 6 bolts securing them to the chassis rail!

    Special Tassie price........probably like the special WA price!

    I recently priced some cans for a smart bar for my dads ford, 450 bucks, but the weren't keen anyway as manufacturers don't usually like to supply new mounts because the bar could be damaged to a point that it effects is designed safety perameters......hope arb doesn't take this view....

    They are designed to take winching forces without problem. I think the one exception is the Toyota Landcruiser 200 series, so they have setup the crush can for impacts, and there is an additional tether on the bar to the chassis which goes through the crush can which prevents the crush can from being opened up when winching.

    Is that suggesting the 200 is a bloated overweight ....err....4wd?

    I figured that would be the case. I guess I was more highlighting my own stupidity of mounting the recovery points on the mounting for the bullbar to crush can. While they might have been rated for winching forces, I believe snatching forces are different (more sudden impact rather than gradual building up in winching) and it might not be rated for that. I intend to move my recovery points to the wombat bar mounting location.

    Sorry - a bit confused with you trying the get these at ARB rather than form Landrover - so I assume we are talking aftermarket crush cans supplied with the bull bar and not the original crush cans on the end of the chassis rails as built.
