Something similar happened to my dads TD5 before he bought it, so the mechanic thinks. Dad bought it privately, and the week after he bought it the engine died. cost him $6500 to rebuild.

The mechanic at the time thought that the previous owner, or the owner before that?? must have driven the vehicle with the oil pressure light on.

The reason for this speculation.... on the conrod caps there were numbers in paint, suggesting that a previous mechanic had removed them and looked at them.

My thoughts..... if you have driven it with the oil pressure light on, even though things may look fine.... sooner or later you may be in for a world of pain... dont mean to put a dampner on things.

    Cheers

    oil pressure

Modern engines have very low tolerance for oil pressure failure.
Measure the time in seconds rather than minutes before damage occurs.
When you hear rattles from the engine it indicates bearings etc starving for lubrication, but damage has probably happened before that.
