Are you pressurizing the cabin with your fan?
Hi Folks,
I'm in Kampala, Uganda with the TD5 es. The dust here is thick as it's the dry.
It's like a red bull dust and gets everywhere. Two questions:
How often should I change the airfilter and has anybody improved the dust sealing of the rear door?
Car has not long been here hence the questions?
Many thanks in advance.
Jerry

Hi , Well I have found as I live on a dirt road that gets very dusty, just not at the moment thoughthat unless you have a snorkel fitted it is best every 1000kms toclean/ change the filter. Checking more often does not hurt either. I also removed the pipe to the guard inlet and found that helped and made no difference to performance. I have a snorkel to fit sometime!
hope this helps you.
Cheers Scott
pps With regards to dust in rear door not much works it seems, as Sidders says fan helps and removing the spare from the door is the best thing but not easy or cheap to do permantly

There are a few schools of thought regarding the air filter
1. remove it and tap out excess dust when driving in very dusty conditions - this can be done each morning on a trip
2. Leave filter in place for the duration of its service interval to prevent the introduction of dust when opening the filter box regularly
I normally do option 1, but can see the logic behind option 2, keeping min mind that the filter box is not very well sealed anyway and it is easy to let dust through the filter if it is not located correctly
There is no way mine would make a service interval as recommend in the service book. 1000kms is about all I will allow . Filters = cheap , Motors = Big $s. But then I may be a bit on the anal side in regards to filtration![]()
Very true, I always carry a spare filter and change it if need be.
I am in the habit of checking mine daily if driving in dusty conditions
The fitting of a snorkel (if not alredy fitted) will make a difference as it moves the intake out of the dust stream
If you are really concerned about it you could fit a pre cleaner like a donaldson, these really do make a significant difference and require very little maintenance.
Snorkel and donaldson type pre cleaner is the way to go.
I do lots of very dusty driving, last trip I went on I was mid rear of a convoy and my filter looked shocking, as did the airbox.
However it doesn't seem to do it any harm in the long run.
Cheers

Im still trying to ballz up and cut my shiny pristine guard! Some pics of my filters approx 300kms for the paper 1 and about 600 for the Uni-Filter. That is dirt kms not overall kms
Cheers Scott
