    where to fit dual monitor

    Hey guys, anyone got a good spot to mount a dual batt monitor (arb sidewinder) i got couple of spots but getting fussy since ive owned a D2 and dont wanna just stick it anywhere, also just for some members that mite not know the front of the ashtray just clips off making it easy to fit possible gauges etc, this is where ive fitted a TM4 engine watchdog, the angle is perfect for viewing and looks neat, on the subject of dual batt for a D2 without rear aircon i just picked up from ARB a batt tray, incredibally it is listed at retail $68, it came from another store and the guy said he would check the price first because he couldnt believe the price, currently listed at that price so i think someone in the main wharehouse has made an error, if you are looking for one id ring now, uses exsisting captive nuts that i assume was for the rear air con

    I think $68 is the standard list price, it was the same when I was looking 18 months ago

    Yes, the trays have been $68 for a few years so definitely not an error.

    I'm 99% sure the captive nuts are for the Fuel Burning Heater mounting brackets. The FBH was fitted to Td5's sold into cold climate markets to provide heating from first start up. I don't think it was even an option in Australia.

    Ditto OFFTRACK ..... I paid the same 3 year ago. I have an ARB compressor mounted on mine. Have got a pic of the TM4 installed?

    I'm assuming that is directed at the OP

    I went the Traxide USI-160 route on my DB install - it has to be the best "bang for the buck" DBS on the market.

    Hi Ken and can a make a suggestion.

    First off, those meters are a waste of time if you are planning on monitoring your batteries while you drive.

    No volt meter will help you to do this because as soon as you start your motor, the only voltage you are going to see is your alternator’s voltage level.

    This will give you no indication of the state of charge of your batteries or if they are actually charging while you drive.

    Now if you can set the monitor up so you can have easy access to it while you are off camping, it could be a real asset.

    When you first stop your motor, even if you have a load on your battery, like a compressor fridge or some camp lights, a volt meter is still of no real use.

    BUT, after you have been set up for a few hours, you can use a volt meter to keep track of your battery’s state of charge and know, at a glance, if you have a few days battery capacity available or if you will have to think about charging your battery in the morning or if the battery is low, it might be time to charge your battery right at that moment.

    A volt meter in this type of situation can be very handy tool and the chart bellow will help you use the meter to it’s best advantage.

    I have just fitted a $19 LED temperature gauge in the coin tray slot.Some may recall I posted on these about a year ago. Then they were $25.

    The monitor was a bit too wide to fit in the tray , so I cut up a plastic box from Jaycar so that there was a little fascia that the display fitted into , and the top was superglued to the roof of the coin tray slot. I cut the box into an "L" shape. When fitted I painted the white plastic with mid grey model paint. Looks good IMHO.

    Now I have a problem . Today I also fitted an ABR battery monitor to the dash just below the instrument cluster, on the LH side of the steering wheel with the cord going through the join of the drop down flap.

    However the LCD display is very faint when looked at from above . I don't want to have it on top of the dash, so looks like I am stuck with it. I have emailed Derek Bester but don't expect much joy.
    So remember if you buy an LCD monitor to check that the contrast is enough when not straight in front of it. LEDs are better in this case IMHO.
