Apparently they kit doesn't fix the part that leaks and are you referring to the oil pressure sensor?

If you are looking at one of the seal and gasket kits like this:

Then no, it is not likely to solve the problem. I replaced the o-rings in my last regulator and it didn't slow the leak at all. The leak seems to originate from inside the regulator unit itself. I presume a diaphragm deteriorates and leaks but they are sealed so I can't confirm.

Mine has just started leaking again so I am going to try one of these kits:

This kit includes the regulator unit that I'm sure is the source of the leak.

Unless the seam /join in the regulator is leaking , the O ring should be the seal point for the regulator itself. The other side is "wet" AFAIK.

Apparently from UK reports it is usually the o ring that causes problems and many nick the new o ring on reassembly. The poms recommend to chamfer the edge of the opening a bit.

Mine leaks a bit so I will know more when I pull it apart soon. I have a kit which includes both types of gaskets and a set of O rings. I am just waiting for a couple of tools I have on order from UK.

My research showed that the o-rings were rarely the problem, but rather the diaphragm inside the regulator capsule.

We bought a kit from the UK, which included a new capsule, along with gaskets and rings.
The gaskets looked OK but were all stretched and deformed when we removed the unit after about a 5 minute run, as the new (no name) capsule had failed and was pouring fuel out the spout.

While we waited for a replacement, we had to put the old one back in, and reused the original gasket..........and have since reused it again with the replacement capsule again. All good now.


There's a couple of threads here with a Bosch replacement, which would be my next go. Dearer, but I'm guessing more reliable.

Depends on where your leak is from. I fitted the kit from eBay to mine and problem solved. Haven't had a leak since and saved me a fair bit obviously.

If your diaphragm is the issue then the kit won't help. There is some information in some of the older threads on a replacement unit as they are a fairly common Bosch style used on various other vehicles including VW and Audi, but there's a lot of uncertainty if it's the same pressure rating.

I did a filter change on mine mid week, and now my FPR has a slow drip
Not too happy about it as it was only replaced 18 months ago with a genuine unit
It appears to be dripping from around the regulator, not the drain hole so I may get a seal kit and give it a go
Hopefully it will fix it as it is not my most favorite job on the Td5

On my quest for an aftermarket replacement regulator unit, I came accross 3 bosch part numbers listed as being compatible.
I already knew of the 0280160575, but it appears that the 0280160517 and the 0280160516 are interchangable.
As luck would have it went down to the local wreckers and they had a few audi 80's in stock, checked the regulators and both were 0280160516, 4 bar regulators, so pulled them out, got them home and they fit straight in the Td5 housing.
Havent fitted it yet as I am waiting on some new seals and a gasket, but will see how it goes when they arrive

Look forward to hearing how you go Sidders, the FPR on my '99 is soaking the underside of the car ATM...and 50-odd bucks for a replacement is a lot better than the amount I paid for a new fuel block a couple of months ago for the '01!
