Yeah, June,July,August,September, depending on weather is mating season. You'll see male combat. Papers always say that snakes are out in abundance and to be careful, I dont know where they get their info from? Mating season would be the safest time. All the boys want to do is find a female, they couldnt care less about us.

Ive got a female goanna (lace monitor), shes beautiful.

No more reptile talk.

bob10, I am starting to think winding the window down is a clever approach to a crossing now, rather than what I was told.

Going back to air intakes: Wondering if an air intake that was used only on river crossings, that had a vent that led into the car interior, which had a shut off valve for normal use, would be feasible? Still trying to figure out a way to not install a snorkel...

AirCon? Windows? Les? He had no windows at all:D and a rag top, open sided . And he was really wary of them big lizards :D

Probably not really worth the hassle.
Just whack a snorkel on it, kills two birds with one stone, cleaner air and good for wading :D

You guys clearly haven't been in a Perentie, they've got duel zone climate control: The windows on both sides open :D
And besides, if you were a river would you give Les any problems? :p

Jul 9, 2013 - Many people fondly remember the Bush Tucker Man ABC series with Major Les Hiddins, his famous hat, and of course, his army Land Rover.

I will be interested to hear whether the Gulf air intake causes an increase in noise levels in the cabin due to intake noise. It seems to be a better place to source intake air.

Yes it does, it's a pretty noticeable roar.

Main thing I was interested in was dust reduction.

I'll have to check again later but after a drive from broken hill to mutawintji then mutawintji to tibooburra via the white cliffs road and a bit of driving around Sturt NP the air filter had minimal dust build up.

I've since driven across from Cameron Corner to the Strezlecki Track and down to Arkaroola but haven't popped the lid to check the state of the filter again.

Hey mate,

Any chance you could run your finger across the inside of the lid. I get pretty worried when I see mine looking like that. I think of the fine dust that has reached the motor.

I appreciate your concern but there was no dust. Any colour on the lid is the reflection from the flash.

The pic was taken something like 1500km ago with about 800km of distance traveled since then being on dirt. I'll pop the lid again when I get home.

As a point of reference after a similar run 2 years ago without the intake, I was having to knock the dust out of the filter every day, so there appears to be a decent improvement in dust rejection. I'd add that I haven't sealed the air box or woven trumpet to the guard so it's possible that some dust is getting into the air box that way.
