Steady pace yes, for the all important bow wave.
Windows down? Not heard of that one.
I was always taught to take my seatbelt off for water crossings but not windows down.
I close all the aircon vents.
I was actually brushing up on my 4wding skills the other week, and I read an article on a website stating to do water crossings, you should wind your windows down, and drive through at a steady pace.
I havent done many water crossings in my experience, (less than 20 id say), and Ive always walked them off, like joel0407s case I did these in croc country, using the indigenous peoples method (here in QLD to show respect, we refer to them as Murries) anyway I used their trick of slapping the water repeatedly and waiting to see for bubbles, im also comfortable with reptiles as I own not only pythons and lizards, but I have taipans and death adders as well. But im going off topic to the question I was supposed to ask, and that is.. The way I was originally taught to water cross, was to wind all windows up and turn aircon on to pressurize the cabin, this worked well in the hilux, and I never had water ingress. (Even had water over the windscreen). I can see the safety issue with the windows up, but that was what I was taught, and it worked for me.
Who does it either way? Or a different way?
Maybe I should start this in a different place, but it seemed to fit in with the conversation flow at the moment.
Cheers
Mik

Thanks Disco Muppet,
Mate, Its on this guys site www.outbackcrossing.com.au on the river crossings section. He seems to know his stuff. Im only halfway through reading what he thinks, but to me its a good read.
It will be interesting to see how others do it.
Maybe Someone should start another thread to see different opinions on how things are done. I cant find any on hereLand Rover specific.

Ahh, So you are 1 of those strange reptile keepers huh? So I take it you probably know Crump?Hes from up my way.
Probably not matey, unlike this forum that has good people and lots of knowledge, the reptile forums are full off rubbishing each other out and mostly negativity, and try hards.
I dont go on them.
If he does know people, there is a certain someone ive lost the ph. No. Of that id like to catch up with..
Nah, Hes on here, well in the deefer section as he has an '02 td5 wagon. Known him for years and hes oki, Well as oki as some1 can be that willingly plays with slithery things.Actually havent seen him on for a while. But I saw him in town the other day.
HaHa I think reptile keepers are a bit like poultry fanciers.
Cheers Scott
Thanks Scott, I didnt mean he was a whackjob, :-) but most keepers worry about accumulating numbers, rather than figuring out how theyre gonna feed them and house them. Most poor animals tend to end up in a tiny box, with owner trying to convince themselves that they are a secretive animal that dont need space. Mine are mostly all out right now, enjoying their excercise, and definatelty need that daily stretch..
Had a laugh at the poultry forums :-) looked at some this morning and it seems to be the same ol rubbish that exists in every animal forum.. The funniest forum there is, is the Vegan forums, I live by animal cruelty free life, but for such supposedly peace loving people, these vegans are viscious :-)
I get peoples strange thoughts of what I keep. I feel physically sick if I see a slug or a snail. I wont kill them though out of respect...
Cheers,
Mik
Yep know what ya mean about Vegans........ Up this way most reptiles are out by August, quite a few goannas about now. I dont mind the pythons, tree snakes and the non offensive types, but will not stand for eastern browns about the house, bloody untrustworthy in my opinion.
And how that heck did we get from air intakes to snakes?
Cheers Scott
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
