Hi All,
This is a follow-up of my previous post: Buying tips for MY 00 Td5 Disco.
*215, 748k
*Appears to be in good condition (I am not at all familiar with D2's however, or much of a mechanic).
*Has ACE fitted.
*Doesn't appear to have the 3 Amigoes - lights illuminate when switched on - then turn off on start up. Owner said a module on the front wheel was replaced previously - undocumented.
*Has a recall notice sticker in R/H door sill - not legible.
*Has 5, 15, 30, 40, 50k servicing from Alto Sydney - No docs, just stamps
*Has 80, 90, 110, 120, 130k servicing from local garage (Rapid Automotive) - No docs, just stamps.
*Appears to have missed a service at 148, 000 - date written - no stamp.
*Has 160, 170k services completed at Woodleys - documented.
*Underside appears to be pretty clean.
*Roof liner replaced.
*Recent replacement of injector loom - documented.
*May have SLS? (rear coils have cylindrical object inside them).
*Was bought at approx. 160k to be a caravan tug (20 ft).
TROUBLING THINGS:
RECENT MOTOR REBUILD
The head, turbo radiator, radiator assembly replaced 2013 (documented). Owner explained that a pin hole in a hose below turbocharger caused coolant loss which cooked the motor. I immediately thought surely appropriate maintenance should have prevented this. Is this a indicator of inadequate maintenance performed by non-LR mechanics not knowing what to look for? If so, should I expect some other unpleasant surprises to crop up in the future?
WATER INGRESS: TOP OF DASHBOARD
Upon entering the cabin I noticed a small drop of water on the top of the centre of the dashboard. After looking at it after driving it a short distance I noticed that there was a substantial amount of liquid all around the CD player. The owner could not explain this. The exterior of the car was not wet, recently washed, nor had it been raining for at least a week. There were no obvious signs of leaks on carpets (there were no mats to obscure this either). Please see pics to follow.
OIL PUMP BOLT
There’s no record that the oil pump bolt has been seen to. Should that have been done between the 5 – 50k services completed by ALTO?
Can anyone suggest a LR mechanic or someone who knows what to look for in the Tamworth region to inspect the car?
Cheers,
Mark

From the pictures
Same alloy bull bar as mine (EBC)
My turbo was replaced pre purchase as well. Looks the same
Dual battery is a plus.
Mine also has ACE.
There is no off road height button on the dash so I'm guessing it never had SLS.
I paid $13,000 in Brisbane about 4 months ago. Had 165,000 on the clock.
Happy Days.
These underside photos MUST be photo shopped as there is no oil dripping off anything!
How much is it advertised for? About 10-12k?
And could it be condensation from the hoses behind the dash?
Seller wants around $8k.
Strange place for condensation to come out from. Did you see the pics?
8K?
ACE, full engine rebuild, replaced roof lining....
I'd take it and run.
My thoughts on that water are that there's a sealing issue with the bottom of the windscreen and it's gotten into the CD player cavity. That's just me though. Start up looks good.
If the engine was replaced due to an overheat it is possible the heater core/matrix has been damaged: therefore possible steam /condensation around the area mentioned.
As to the coolant hose behind the turbo charger leaking. That is the sneaky little bugger that unless one has been in here or elsewhere and has been made aware of it actually being there, it will catch everyone out.
Cheers
