Had the same join "pop" today 17ks into a Darwin Trip, so did about 14ks better than Greg!!! Arived home on the Tilt Tray with caravan in tow, much to the delight of my Nissan GQ driver Mate. ( Reckon the teasing won't subside anywhere near 12 Months). Like Greg had also carried out full service and thorough inspection including that join as it is a known problem in this forum.
Question for the Forum Sages; Should I replace both lines as insurance? or is the failure due to the curve in the flexible part of the line.
Regards
Harry
I feel for you--we drive a very sophisticated and magnificent looking 4wd!!!!! BUT I have continually been let down by inferior parts on what was an expensive car!!! I am now waiting to see what will happen next---travelling to isolated areas of the cape and in areas without mobile coverage I am losing confidence in my chosen vehicle......I have an extensive array of spares and a tool kit with a lot of D2 landy unique ones !!! Does one upgrade to a later model or what?:confused::confused::confused::conf used::confused:
Thanks Greg and same to you. Did say to the wife on the roadside yesterday that I no longer trust this vehicle to go bush. For instance there is no way I would take it across the simpson let alone to the tip of Cape York. It is a 2002 with 150,000 ks on the clock and has been used to tow a caravan. Been in low range about 3 or 4 times in its life. Have treated it like a baby, serviced it more than regularly and inspected or replaced most of the known faults on this forum. Reckon its getting like a Race Car, more work than enjoyment!!!!! In defence of the Discoveries was talking to a Guy who had done 500,000 ks and apart from normal wear out items he had replaced ONE uni in the front tailshaft.
The Towie who bought us home yesterday used to do tow work for Solitiare Motors (Landrover Dealer) and told me their most regular tow jobs were Discovery 3 with electrical issues.
Anyway time to get under the Nanna Truck again with spanners in hand.

As a reality check do have a wander through the pages of any Nissan forum or toyota forum or a Mitsi and take note of the trails and tribs of equally aged vehicles, note I said EQUALLY aged vehicles. No make or model is immune in real life.
Cheers Scott
at least its not a jeep...
they spit their auto oil onto the exhaust manifold.....
or have the harness rub through to catch fire....

Do you mean like the 2 year old jeep doing 110ks on the South Eastern Freeway a few years ago and went back to First gear. Spectacular sight and economical write off. Nanna Truck has not cost me those dollars yet. Previous 4WD's (Landy2A, Tojo powered by 307 Chev, & SD33T) were far more reliable and subjected to a lot more off roading. Disco is much better all round vehicle and a pleasure to drive, but since 100,000ks has been unreliable with constant maintenance between services.
Would be nice to get one interval of 10,000ks without something going wrong.
Don't believe I would still own it if the advice on this Forum was not available.

Hi Harry, I researched this failure a bit on this forum and the consensus is that the weak point is the LH side trans cooler line hose join only. This is on the higher pressure side of the cooler running from the top of the trans. I just replaced mine with a new LR part as a precaution. But it's still worth checking the RH side hose crimp joint and if you can rotate the flex hose easily at the crimp replace that too. Mine was ok.
To remove the difficult to get at top flare nut a crows foot spanner makes the job easier.
Cheers
Simon
PS soon to replace my fuel pump, fuel block, CPS, PS pump, water pump for my D2as 250k precautionary present!
Thanks Simon
Did both the hoses with genuine parts, didn't need the other one to go half way to Darwin. What annoyed me was the crimped join showed no sign of weeping or movement. After the failure I could actually push the join back together!!!. Purchased the parts from TRS, amended a Ringy to fit the top trans nut and apart from needing smaller hands job was not too bad. Did a filter change on trans as well. TRS tell me it is an age thing and nothing to do with km's, or how the vehicle is treated. Had difficulty releasing the right hand hose quick release even after liberally spraying it, so modified an old side valve engine valve spring tool to fit, and bingo, I have special landrover tool "639472" to release all recalcirant quick release fittings.
Now sitting by the pool in Darwin sipping a rare French Brandy and wondering what all the fuss was about.
Must admit the Nanna Truck did perform very well (at the second attempt) averaged 16.8 litres to 100 towing a 2 tonne van.
