From what I understand Harrop's relationship with Eaton allows them to manufacture their own True Tracs for the local domestic market.Quote:

Spoke to one of the guy's from GBR Utah and they recon Ashcroft is not such good quality, can't be serviced but would make sense in europe due to the much cheaper price. He said he would go with a ARB or True Track any time over an Ashcroft especially in OZ where we pay the premium for everything
Firstly, TrueTracs are more expensive than the Ashcroft unit. The ATB is only $510.00 ex GB while the TrueTrac is around $595.00 ex USA. This doesn't include freight charges etc. which will also have a significant bearing.Quote:

I assume 'Utha' is meant to be Utah? As in Utah, USA. So TrueTracs are probably cheaper in the USA vs importing in ATB adding on extra costs. But for us, we would have to import in both and experience those additional costs.
Secondly, GBR Utah only sell TrueTracs and not the Ashcroft ATB < Coil Sprung Diff Carriers > - so which product would you expect them to recommend?
I'm not saying that the ATB is a better product than the TrueTracs, but there certainly are a few considerations.
As for not being serviceable, while I am not aware of Ashcroft listing replacement internal parts for it on their website, it certainly looks to me like I could open it up and service it, so there is a potential there for them to supply the replacement parts if required.
If you want the best Automatic Torque Biasing Helical LSD, then get a Quaife brand unit rather than Ashcroft or TrueTrac.

I agree with how Ashcroft puts it, the Quaife Torsen is the high level lifetime warrantee top of the bill product, at equivalent price.
The truetrac is a simplified design (3 pairs of gears instead of 6) in a cheaper construction, at half the price.
The Ashcroft has the design and construction of the Quaife at competitive pricing to the truetrac. (found them to be about 200 euro cheaper actually)
Although I had truetracs in my discovery before without problems there are some sites mentioning quality issues with them in the last years.
I went for the Ashcroft ATB’s and replaced all bearings and put in a new R&P in the back (as mine was howling as a wolf in heat)

My expectations are high. As said the construction is much better and stronger than the truetracs.
Personally, my decision to go with Ashcroft ATB came down to price. I could import them for cheaper than I could find a supplier of TrueTracs. I have no issue with TrueTracs and as I mentioned above I am currently trying to source a TrueTrac for the rear of my Pursuit ute.
in my 300tdi 110, truetrac for front and detroit in the rear with ashcroft 1/2shafts[rear only], works great in an everyday car[work vehicle] and is awesome off road. Purchased truetrac and locker off GBR Utah last year for $500 and $600 each when the exchange rate was better. I only fitted the ashcroft 1/2 shafts as the standard items had worn splines-not because they broke. The truetrac in the front will bite the tarseal when wet if to heavy on the go pedal-drive accordingly. I would gladly do the same set up again
Could get the True Tracks shipped for US$625 from GBR.
Fair enough they do not sell them as he said for that reason.
From your posts it seems like the Ashcroft is the better unit.
Not sure what to make of it now and which one is better.
For $100 more I go for the better unit, for double the price probably not.
if your getting truetracs be advised that the front and rear units are different, you cant swap front for rear.
Ashcrofts ATB are the same unit front or rear.
I have truetrac and very glad I did,
I also have Ashcroft Heavy Duty R380 and very glad about that too.
If I was doing the same again I'd get Truetrac from GBR again,
Also the Truetrac literature states they are not user serviceable, they are bolted together and then machined as an assembly.
Interesting stuff. Can anyone tell me, from having no ATB but good functioning traction control and CDL locked and going to an ATB with CDL and traction control what the improvement is like in practical and percentage terms? *(in practice they would certainly be a nice safety net to have if the traction control crapped itself)

The beautiful part of the ATB is you don't notice it. The TC seamlessly integrates it's way into the functioning of the ATB and you just don't get stuck in places you otherwise would.
The Ashcroft unit is silent, servicable and cheap.
