    Nice so far.

I have had the 697s for about 5K and I am very happy.

Road, sand (Double Is point), creek crossings (Condamine River Rd, 14 crossings) and mud (Duck Ck Rd track to O'Riellys) have not presented any problems so far.

Noise levels are reasonable and handling across all areas have been impressive.

    I would definitely recommend

The noise is one thing that worries me about them. I can hear the very obvious increase in noise level from a single d697 that is on the car at the moment. I'm really hesitant about pulling the trigger on a set for this reason. The Latitudes are very quite so perhaps I've been spoilt. I'm thinking Pirelli Scorpion ATR or the Conti Cross Contacts might be a better choice....

I probably should have said the Michies are not a heavy offroad tyre? Treated carefully most tyres can do "offroad" It is just that when you subject them to speed, load and rocks/ gravel combined then you tend to find the weakness. A mate had michelens on his first D2 and I dont think he managed to wear any out! They drove and rode nice but could not handle the rocky roads that he drove all the time. I think the 1s he settled on were Geolanders.
With regard to the Pirelie ATR, that is what I have on now in 235/70-16 and I am quite pleased with them so far (8000k) very sure footed in sand and gravel, quiet enough that you dont need the stereo up. They do not seem to be chipping at all and some of the dirt sections here are very rocky now, The only thing is Im not sure how well they wear, 8k is not far enough to determine a trend.

Looks like the 235/70r16 D697 are the go. Paid $328 in Tibooburra to get one fitted so that has tipped the decision as don't especially want to either trade it in or have an odd size/make. I'd have to go to 245/70R16 or 245/75R16 in other makes to get the LT construction.

Did a bit of a shop around and have been quoted $215 by KTAS and $220 by Bridgestone. KTAS want me to front up and give them a deposit before they'll order them in, Bridgestone have them on the shelf. I'd be happy to pay a $20 premium per tyre not to give Kmart my money, so getting to save the hassle of paying them two visits and not give them my business for only $5 a tyre is a bargain.

    Let me guess, you've:

    - removed the engine acoustic cover: "doesn't increase noise noticeably"
    - replaced the front muffler with a straight pipe: "noise increase in the cabin isn't bad, exhaust is a bit louder"
    - fitted an Ashcroft CDL lever: "doesn't increase cabin noise levels by very much"

    cheers

Yes OffTrack, whatever you say OffTrack
Looks like you've gone with the D697, but for what it's worth...
I've had the Scorpion ATR on for probably close to 40k now and I'm very impressed.
They've been wearing well, I'll more than likely get double what I've got now out of them.
I've never noticed them being noisy at all, but then again...collapsed engine mounts and all
They've done well offroad, they're certainly no MT but they can hold their own, was very impressed with them in sand.
Also very tough, as I'm pretty lax about airing down and stuff and they've not chipped or got any punctures or anything like that.
    Food for thought
    Cheers

I'm not sure how put this politely, so I'll cut to the chase: Get ****ed.

Sorry I forgot the Scorpions were top rated by Roofies Mates at 4WD Wrist Action, no wonder you've got them fitted

As I said, I'm happy with the 235/70R16's, and the Scorpions are only available in LT in the 245/70R16.

    Add:

This is what is I can find that is available in 235/70R16 "50:50" AT's:

Pirelli Scorpion ATR: P235/70R16 105T (passenger)
    General Grabber AT2: N/A
Conti Cross Contact AT: 235/70R16 106S (passenger)
    Bridgestone D697: LT235/70R16 110S (light truck)
    Toyo Open Country A/T: 235/70R16 106T (passenger)

Now now, no need for that

I do, however, take offence at the notion that you think I'm convinced by 4WD ActionAdvetising
They were the best option at the time, I got a good price on them, and everything else had a two week wait and my old tyres wouldn't have passed Rego....
Anyway, do you see me driving a hilux with a 4" lift, Cooper STTs, charging through the bush and swearing at greenies?
    You've insulted my intelligence OffTrack
    Then again.....
I do have a Tigerz winch....

I bought a new set of D697s for the P38 yesterday. 245/70/16 on 8"rims (usual is 255/65/16) $239 all up each fitted/balanced/environmental levy for old tyres included. Invoice base price was $225 ea.
According to the Bridgestone bloke, the D697 is an 8 ply LT construction with an A/T tread... was confused 'til he explained this
