    Td5 power steering pump

The power steering pump on my 99 Td5 has started leaking.
Firstly it is not the pipe that rubsthrough on the sump.
Ever the optimist I replaced the o ring on the pipe that comes into the bottom of the pump.
Drove it for two days and I thought the problem was solved but after standing for two days I see it is wet again. It seems to be coming from the gasket between the two body halves.

The options I now have are buy a gasket for $10 and replace the gasket or fit a new pump for $300 from the UK.

    It has done 200 000km.

I just wanted to know if any has done this before and how it worked out for them.
Replacing the pump doesnt seem like too much work.

    Thanks
    Ryan

Well I think my fiddling has made it angry. The leak has gotten worse so the pump is now on the work bench but not before I covered everything with oil.

From what I can see it is not a simple task of just removing the bolts and splitting the pump.
It will definetly need a press to remove the flange thinghy.

So I am thinking after 200 000km a new pump is probably a good idea.

So far the best Aus. price is $350 and about $300 delivered from UK but I don't want to wait.

It could be worth checking out these guys:

    http://www.mellinguk.co.uk/products/...l'sef=hcfp

Melling bought Hobourn - the OEM manufacturer of the D2 steering pumps - in 2008 and continue to make the pumps with the original tooling. The £198inc vat, would translate to £165/$280 ex-vat plus whatever shipping charges applied.

    cheers

The Melling eBay store says £50 shipping to Aus. Rimmer Bros are about £10 cheaper. Better off buying local.

The new Melling pump arrived today but it looks as if it has been dropped bending the inlet pipe. One of the disadvantages of buying online you can't view the goods before parting with the cash. So hopefully the vendor can sort this out pronto.

When you say OEM for Melling manufacturing the QVB101240, who makes the genuine onse?
Is there a real cause to go with the genuine here?

    Td5 power steering pump

Melling bought Holbourn who made the original pumps for Land Rover. The Melling pumps are made using the original Holbourn tooling used to make the original pumps. That is why Melling are an Original Equipment Manufacturer.
