Advice please - tweety bird prop shaft.

Yep, I've got the dreaded chirp chirp
Had a squiz and it appears to be the DC on the prop shaft, less than a milimetre play in it but there's silver bits showing on the ends of the unis.
I know a rebuild with better quality parts or a Tom Woods shaft is on the cards but that's a bit too time consuming and expensive for me right now.
Is there any harm in running it in 2WD with the CDL locked?
I've got glenreagh next weekend and to say this has put a spanner in the works could be a bit of an understatement.
    Cheers

Definitely remove the shaft, and lock the CDL. You'll be fine. Just try to avoid giving into the temptation to do burnouts in the Uni car park until the shaft is fixed/replaced.

    Burnouts?
    In a non chipped Td5?

Will it still be right to head up to Glenreagh in 2WD? Keeping in mind it's 2000km roughly but I'm not exactly a harsh driver. Doing my best to sort it out between now and then.
Also, time for the wire snip so I don't need to do the CDL shuffle every time I switch it off?

I have a non DC shaft that is suitable to use on D2 front while arranging repair or replacement of your DC shaft. My son used it for a few thousand k's while having his DC replaced.

If you're heading to Glenreagh via Sydney you are welcome to collect and fit at my place on your way through. It means you can still drive through all diffs thereby eliminating the extra load on the rear diff by running in 2WD. Provided you don't subject it to any extreme articulation all will be fine.

Give me a call or drop me a PM if you're interested.

    G'day Muppet.
I just had my front shaft rebuilt as a precaution more than anything. 3 new uni's and the center ball replaced, balanced and painted for $137.50. Driveline services Australia (Newcastle). There is a branch at Dubbo.

I drove for well over 2000k's on the rear shaft while saving for a woods unit. I really don't know what the fuss is about with driving with CDL locked on one shaft. Just WHAT is going to happen?

The intermediate shaft turns the centre diff. Being locked it puts equal drive fore and aft, but there's no load forward so it just goes rearwards, no load from the front.
