Mine does this regularly.
I think the 'clever' security system just confuses itself.
All I do is pull the key, lock and unlock, key back in and all is ok.
I think it is the price we pay for relying on electronics in vehicles.

I posted a few months ago about March that my 2002 EU3 D2 TD5 Auto with only 140KK would not start after I filled with diesel at the Shell at Kincumber.
I tried priming it and the fuel pump was going and checked for ECU faults and there were none.
It started after about five minutes quite normally. Hmm the Shell station has a sliding door and I was about 7 metres from it.
Again today I was at Kincumber Coles shopping centre which is across the road from Shell Kincumber and it did it again! I just thought of the fact that it happened in the same area as I was typing this.
I checked the faults and again no faults. I primed it but I couldn't hear the pump for the general noise level. Anyway it again started no problem after about 2-3 minutes. I was parked about 10 metres from the sliding door into the shopping centre
I am now wondering if it is either the dreaded interference with immobiliser syndrome .
Funny but my active immobilistaion is disabled with only passive in operation.
The other thought I had was maybe like the TD6 where the ECU doesn't enrichen for start enough on a hot engine. I think I had the aircon on both times and I turned it off before it started.
Battery is a new Optima Blue top 750CCA and the starter was Zing zing. Voltage was something like 12.4 during crank. It always otherwise starts virtually first cylinder.
Any ideas?

PS ECU plug and the plug at the front of the rocker cover are now just about fully dry after a new loom about April.

Local OL spent about 2 hours fitting my lift kit, and the rest of the day trying to work out why it wasn't starting.
Pushed it out the door and away it went.
Chemists are supposed to be shocking for it.
definitely sounds like the dreaded imobiliser problem Phillip,,
you could test it again,,,

Someone gave me a clue on another thread.
I have my passive immobiliser enabled.
Apparently if you unlock then do not start for 21/2 minutes the passive immobiliser prevents start.
Apparently the fix is to lock and unlock.
It hasn't done it again , so I have yet to see if that is correct.
It is a case of learning the quirks, like the power windows auto up/down needing a button push of less than 0.4 seconds. Who would guess when every other power window needs a longer push.
Regards Philip A
The crazy thing is that AFAIK the window thing is not in the owner's handbook only in the description of operation in RAVE.
Must be a lot of clairvoyant owners!
