snakes in the glovebox? i have that issue in mine but no hissing and stops when the kids find the packet!.![]()
what about the exhaust manifold? more a whistling noise but you might be hearing it better at low revs?.
Howdy folks.
I'm starting to make a list of stuff I want to check out when I do the head gasket early next year.
Since I've owned the car, it's had a hissing sound at low RPM, really only noticeable when doing lots of slow work or moving off the line slowly, etc.
I've done a quick search and found that it might be the flex pipe after the turbo.
Mine is still the mesh type so possibly original.
Anything else I should check out?

No snakes
I don't think it's the manifold, although I'll probably de-web it when I do the head.
No soot, and the manifolds tend to squeal like crazy under load.
I would suspect the exhaust flex pipe. another possibility is the drive belt. I have noticed on occasion the Tdi's "hiss" for some reason at low revs. Dust is a idea maybe?
Other than that ? Wild Card Blog

Vacuum pump, brake booster or egr modulator tubing vacuum leak?
Airconditioning system can hiss?
Regards
I'd say definitely the turbo hose, really easy to replace with a better one.
