non genuine windscreen but genuine molding.

now, whats wrong with a non genuine windscreen if anything?

Try a non-national chain. I got a D3 screen with it's built in sensors for less than what you've been quoted.

People have had issues with poor sealing on non genuine screens.
The tinting on the genuine ones is far superior, and I believe they're stronger too.

Just make sure you are there to supervise the removal of the plenum cover as at least one side of the bonnet has to be removed and better if the whole bonnet is removed . The Plenum cover cannot be removed without being broken otherwise.
Also the side mouldings will probably be broken as it seems very difficult to pop out the centre "locks" on the plastic clips.
Both the Plenum and side mouldings on mine are broken presumable fron the PO having a new screen.

I've had novus do all my screens including Disco 2 and 3 on m y drive...no need to remove bonnets or plenums, just the "A" trims and a bead breaker. all other trim including wipers (albeit flipped of the screen) stay in place. New screen slips down and under the trim bits and the mastic does the rest. Never leaked...all good.

Might be Ok if they know what they are doing and know the tricks to the trade.

I strongly recommend removing the bonnet and plenum. Mine came back all F'd up five ways from Sunday and with a pathetic excuse to boot.

I have since replaced the plenum with a brand new one and it was only coming off after the bonnet was removed.

If anything, take a heap of photos before you drop your car in (of the plenum etc)

Non genuine will most likely be clear glass. Genuine glass will have a slight tint in the glass itself - is called 'Opticool' or something.

So check it out first before you go that way if it is likely to bother you.

FWIW, O'Briens did a good job (eventually) on our D2a. No plenum off, no bonnet off. Need new top finisher - insist on genuine. Check the a pillar covers when they are removed. If they have broken tabs, have them both replaced (insurance). Check that the drain holes in the guard tops are clear of everything, including polyurethane spoil from the hack out.

When we originally had the screen done, we used a non-gen Chinese jobbie. It was alright, with a band high on the screen, which suited me. It leaked after 12 months, so back to O'B to do it again. BTW, the leak destroyed the sound system - cost O'B $380 to fix.

Their generic screens were seen to be faulty on inspection, so the whole batch(es) were condemned and binned. I insisted on LR screen. It fitted correctly, with the correct arcs and no flat spots or inclusions in the laminar layer.

We have had no problems since. Neither have O'B in Ringwood (Vic).

Lesson: Use the right thing - no problem. Try to go cheap - shower of scheizer follows.
