A Z9 Ryco will screw to the filter housing but is too long and will foul on the TD5 motor. MAhle OEM from Karcraft are Austrian and very good quality and price. I took the trouble to fit a remote filter housing to stop getting 3rd degree burns and getting oil everywhere when changing the filter. This takes a Z9 but I won't use a Ryco. Ryco are now made by the parent company GUD Manufacturing in Thailand. GUD also make the filters for Toyota in the same factory to Toyota's specs. The current Toyota Z9 (15600-41010) is made in Japan and whilst it is the same thread etc, it is bigger again, more filter medium. Good quality but $25 retail from Toyota dealers.
We are also a Ford dealer, so I use the Motorcraft AFL1MC, this is a Z9 spec, but made currently in the US. These look similar to the Ryco but internally have a better filter medium and use silicon anti-syphon valves instead of rubber. They are only $12 retail from any Ford dealer.

The remote mount I used is a Perma Kool brand from the USA. This one I got from Rocket Industries in Sydney, $49, that was a while ago but even at $100 now it is a great convenience. It comes with an adapter to screw on like a filter to the motor and another adapter you then screw a filter to. It uses brass fittings, hose clamps and about a metre of hose. The hose is pretty poor so I replaced with a 300psi hose from Enzed and decent fittings that do away with the hose clamps. On the front passenger side chassis rail there was a convenient hole already there, so that was where I mounted the remote head. So when the filter comes off, oil goes straight into a pan, no mess. Filter is tucked up and well protected by the chassis rail. The hose was a bit painful to route but been there for around 280k and been very convenient. It also uses an original Land Rover filter if you want to, same thread as Z9 as stated.
Best part...........no burns, no mess.
Cheers
I thought I couldn't hear the mhale rotor filter spinning after I turn off the engine but last night I could with the bonnet open. Seems to be a lower frequency or something. I have bought a mann& hamel one for the next service to try that. but no probs sticking with the Mahle one. Cheers Matt
I noticed my Mann&Hummel filter not spinning and have found that there is a big variation in the overall length of these filters. I have pushed one of the bronze bushes out of 3 of these so far to machine a bit off the face to allow it to spin.
A centrifugal filter is useless if it dosen't spin.
Next filter change I am going to take a measurement and check new filters before I fit them.
