By far the bigger problem is that it only can take one overheat on a 4 litre V8 to slip a sleeve requiring a complete rebuild.Quote:

Drive an EU3 TD5 ( 2002 0n) in good nick and you will like it. I had a highly modified 3.9 RRC optimised for torque and the TD5 tows much better and has plenty of poke around town , much to my surprise AND does at least 11.5 L per 100K .
I have found after 23 years of v8 ownership that you rarely use over 4000Rpm except when overtaking if you want reasonable fuel economy, and the TD5 is more powerful below say 3000RPM. The biggest thing I miss is the sound.
