    Front drive shaft failure

I have read a bit on here about the front drive shaft failing and breaking the gearbox and/or transfer case.

I know race cars must have a tail shaft loop to stop this from happening.

Has anyone tried a tail shaft loop on the front cross member to keep the front driveshaft from being so destructive?

I know maintaining it is better but it still seems to happen.

They generally fail as people don't get under vehicles and check them on a regular basis, if checked then explosion could be prevented as it would have been replaced. Out of sight out of mind usually

While you are under there, check for oil leaks. You just may be able to fix them / it before you are on a recovery truck. Bob

I have one of those tailshaft loops sitting in my garage from an old supercharged Falcon.

Is it the diff side of the tailshaft that usually fails? I assume if the gearbox end failed it would just break and drag along not causing too much damage...

I have seen a gearbox end uni fail, the shaft dropped and dug into the road throwing the back of the car up and ripping the diff out.

Not so many have had to have gearbox and or T/C replaced due to the DC joint breaking and the tail shaft whipping around smashing everything in sight
The loop would work in my opinion on the DC joint end
