They generally fail as people don't get under vehicles and check them on a regular basis, if checked then explosion could be prevented as it would have been replaced. Out of sight out of mind usually
I have read a bit on here about the front drive shaft failing and breaking the gearbox and/or transfer case.
I know race cars must have a tail shaft loop to stop this from happening.
Has anyone tried a tail shaft loop on the front cross member to keep the front driveshaft from being so destructive?
I know maintaining it is better but it still seems to happen.

Seems like a good idea.....

While you are under there, check for oil leaks. You just may be able to fix them / itbefore you are on a recovery truck. Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
I have one of those tailshaft loops sitting in my garage from an old supercharged Falcon.
Is it the diff side of the tailshaft that usually fails? I assume if the gearbox end failed it would just break and drag along not causing too much damage...
It my have been a dream but I thought LR Automotive advertised a guard sometime ago to fit Td5 Auto's
