I thought about threading a tap in it or using a hacksaw blade to do same as the chisel trick. I like the tap idea, looks good.

    Thanks.

Fausto79, I personally have twice used the tap method. I can't quite remember which tap atm but I do remember putting a ball bearing ball (approx 12mm dia) in first so the tap would rotate on that and not burr up the crankshaft. Worked wonders for me.
Tomorrow if I get a chance I will find the tap and let you know which one I used.

Hydraulic method didn't work for me (even though I used a snug fitting drift) as I believe there isn't enough surface area of the bush and therefore not enough 'purchase' to force it out.

    Cheers,

EDIT: Lubricate bush prior to fitment. It will not turn once installed. I machined up a drift to gently knock it in place. I luckily had an old gearbox input shaft to ensure the bush wasn't too tight on it otherwise it'll tend to turn shaft even when clutch is fully disengage, putting additional strain on you syncho rings.

Cool Disco 2 Spigot Bush Replacement

My 2000 D2 has, for the 3rd time since I purchased it in 2007, worn through another spigot bush........it makes quite a unique sound.

Has anyone toyed with the idea of replacing the sintered bronze bush with a sealed needle roller bearing? In the absence of any measurements, I would reasonably presume that there would be some machining involved to accommodate what would likely be a slightly larger diameter bearing....or possibly not? I have done this type of work (machining a new home for a new bearing) before on pump housings but not in a vehicle application. To me the idea is pretty straightforward, has anyone done this to a D2? Cheers.....

Don't know about the D2. (Trusties will chime in soon ) but most spigots are housed in the rear of the crankshaft rarther than the flywheel.

Forget the needle roller, it’s something causing this like alignment or gearbox bearings .

You do knock the box into neutral at lights I presume.

I haven’t had one of these boxes out, are there dowels to locate the bellhousing to the motor or holes for where they should be.
If this is the 3rd bush I’d be checking the flywheel and crank runout with a dial gauge.
Soak the bush in oil as long as you can, overnight if possible.

    Good luck
