    Stuffed MAF?
Increased fuel use is normally a head gasket symptom but not to the levels of 400km/tank

Think I may have stumbled across the problem - I'm a poor mechanic

A couple of weeks before the diesel use started heading skywards, I replaced the radiator. While in there, I had the oil cooler off to replace the gasket and sort our some oil leaks. The turbo came off to get access to the oil cooler, and it looks like I didn't tighten the nuts holding the turbo to the exhaust enough and they've come loose, allowing exhaust to escape (the kerosene smell I'm guessing), meaning the turbo is not working optimally, and so the engine is over fuelling to compensate. All theory, so far, I'll go down tonight and tighten the nuts, with some loctite if I can find some. Then watch diesel use over the next week.

Didn't think to link the earlier work because of the 2-3 week gap between it and the diesel use rocketing up.

Luckily I'm better at my day job.
