Small - 1/4 drive, 6 point (hex) socket from supercheap.


Hammer it on and use a short extension and ratchet.

Dremel tool and cutting disc.

9/16" is a tighter fit than 14mm
I only use 9/16" for this single hex is the way to go

Got it off, chiseled, made a right mess of it but it's off.
Now, about me not being able to move.....
It's odd, I've locked the centre diff with a 10mm spanner ( I think) but not getting any light on the dash, no drive in hi or low range, and a whirring/grinding noise on putting the auto back into park....

Never mind, it's working now, making horrible clunks when put into gear though...

Okay, once and for all the bastard job is done
I'll clean up Xtremes prop and get it ready to return to him, get a proper one sorted, and take it easy on the rear diff for now

Rangieman, I actually found the 14mm spanner was tighter than the 9/16, which suggests it was time for the nuts to be refreshed anyway. Pity it snapped my 14mm spanner, but it was cheap crap...

When you buy replacement nuts will they have 14mm or 9/16ths heads?
Is there an uped spec nut that can be used instead?

Would be very interested on what has been used by others to replace the standard nuts and bolts.

There is a socket and extn tool available which is slimmer than conventional ones and provides better access.

Just go to your local bolt bar , The nuts they sell are better than the rover crap and are still 9/16"
