    Cruise control

Hey will a cc module out of a v8 work in a td5?.... Same unit? Or different?

    Cheers

The V8 and TD5 cruise control systems are different. The dash surround on/off switch and set switch on the steering wheel are the same. The TD5 does not have the separate cruise control module, the function is part of the engine ECU. If cruise control is not fitted you just need the two switches and a nanocom or similar to enable cruise control in the BCU settings.

Cheers for that, I have cruise, but it's a bit lazy and varies quite a bit. Going up hill it will actually keep accelerating until its nearly 10 over then it slows down, when coming down, the speed goes to about 10 under before cruise recovers and starts to catch up to the set, then it goes over a bit etc etc. it holds steady on even roads and does everything right, but the laziness is giving me the irits.
The one on the p38 is spot on, this one is the worst I've had. The nanocom doesn't let you change the sensitivity and bbsolutions apparently has no immediate plans to include the cc into the nanocom at this stage....

Land Rover cruise control is notoriously sloppy in the earlier models, dad's V8 did the exact same thing as yours.
    Mine surges on hills.

Yep, my D2 Td5 auto is exactly the same. Ive always wondered if a manual would be better.

My Td5 is a manual, and cruise is pretty shocking on anything other than a flat road.

Only use mine on the flat. It can't do hills without hunting up & down the auto box where I can stay in top gear & maintain speed without cruise.

AFAIR the V8 module is a vacuum operated one that pulls and pushes a cable to vary speed.
The symptoms you describe are the same as I experienced with an aftermarket Command unit when one of the three solonoid valves in the vacuum motor was dead.
Also the cable should not be too tightly adjusted .
However also check the vacuum lines and teh pump although I think teh pump is ago or no go. I am assuming that they are vacuum operated , but I know they have a cable.LOL .

I must say I haven't noticed my TD5 to increase speed up hills. All it does when towing is change down drop out of lock and rev like hell. LOL . I have found by far best to disengage Cruise and keep the TC locked by letting it slow on hills.

The cc must have improved on the later models. The cc on my 2004 manual Td5 doesn't seem to have any of the problems you mention. It does over run a slightly uphill and under run a little down hill but nothing like you mention and no worse than any other vehicle I've had. The uphill overrun was improved even more with the VNT turbo which, because it provides more power, requires less right foot and you get less overrun when you hit the top of the hill.

Forgot to say, mine is a 2003 D2a & I'm running 235/85R16 tyres. It could be the oversizrd tyres causing it to be less than perfect?
