    electric brake controller

hi after opinions on the best brake controller for the d2 td5, my father had one fitted to his when he had it but needed to change it as it created feedback issues in the tempremental electrics, the next one was fine but we can't remember the name of it and the cars moved on. will be looking to tow a braked camper as well as caravan at a later stage if that matters in the selection?

    G'day
You really can't go past a Tekonsha P3. I installed mine and it was a pleasure. It has some great features such as trouble shoot that alows you to view voltages and current in real time on a digital display. 3 boost settings and is very easy to use.

I'm very happy with the Tekonsha P3.
Had it on my D1 originally, and now on the County.
Used to have a Jayco Swan camper, and now have a 16' poptop van. Works well on both.
Haven't done any offroad towing so can't comment on that aspect.

I agonised between a Tekonsha P3 and the Redarc unit with hidden control box. The Redarc would have made for a less complicated and neater install but has less features for the same price as the Tekonsha. After speaking to many people I settled on the Tekonsha and it's worked really well.

Another vote for the Tekonsha P3. Fitted one late last year to Charlie. It's so much smoother then the old hayman reese solid state unit I had. Just back from a week away towing the van with no problems at all.

I fitted it on the dash top between the instrument cluster and drivers A pillar.

    Cheers

What ever you do, make sure it's a Proportional Controller. They can be fitted to the trailer itself as long as the trailer has it's own power such as a battery. Then any vehicle can tow it.

AFAIK that's how it's done it the UK and the US from what I can make out on forum posts.

    Happy Days.

Na, fit it to the D2. Get a Tekonsha P3 or a P2 (to save a bit of cash). Get it fitted by a Land Rover pro or get some good advise. There is something about fitting extra relays to resolve an issue.

I paid to get a P2 fitted. It sits between the console and the drivers A pillar, easy to reach, easy to use, very reliable - and thats what you want when you're towing.

I need to get a couple of these soon, but was reading a poll on my swag about controllers, who had what. A lot had the p3, and a lot of them canned it, said it had a few faults. Said the p2 was better. I think I need to research the difference in a few different models.
