Head gasket on 2001 Discovery V8

We have a 2001 LR Discovery V8 petrol which had 150 000kms (although apparently had new engine at 35000kms, do not know why)
Radiator hose blew, lots of smoke from engine as we pulled over and now compression test shows no pressure in one cylinder and not much in another, all the rest are fine.
The question is whether we put a new engine in or just replace cylinders?

    Any advice greatfully appreciated.
    Thanks
    Lee

Lee, you don't need to replace and engine because you blew a head gasket unless you had slipped liners or similar. They hate being Over heated.
But you can't really tell what's the damage until you pull the head off, if it only the gasket blew then ensure the head is not warped. It may not be as bad as you think and not as costly, which Cylinders are effected, if next to each other then that will explain less compression in one.
Are you handy with tools, can you read a manual like Rave, then go for it, spend a day pulling the head off and check what's really going one.

Even putting in a borescope into the effected no compression and having a look and see if the piston is not holed. It's a DIY job , but facing of head /s will be a pro shop job, proving every thing else is ok with head.
    Cheers, Mario

you should check the rest of your hoses,,
a change in thermostats will help long term,,

and if one side (head gasket) blew,, the others not that far off --
