    Air Bag Suspension Use'

Was thinking that i haven't had to use my suspension....ever. Even off road have had no reason to press the switch to raise the rear. Its self levelling, so assume it works on its own accord now and again. But, to prolong life of the compressor / bags etc should we be inflating it fully once in a while. Possibly with the same idea as using your air con regularly to maintain / prolong the life the AC system.....? Cheers.

Although you usually cant hear it, the SLS system is working all the time. As you come to a stop at the lights it is usually working.

The main thing to watch for is preventing dust ingress into the system. If you do venture onto dusty dirt roads frequently or are considering a long trip on dirt roads it is worth moving the SLS air intake from behind the LH rear tail light to inside the cabin by extending the hose, so it will no longer breath dust laden air. Even though there is an air filter it is pretty basic.

    Cheers

Ok thanks! I kind of understood it was working all the time, i assumed that the noises i can hear on mine - hisses / compressor type noises - was the SLS working away. Just wondered whether it was beneficial to raise the rear end to fully use the system once in a while.

I had the same idea to use the air lift on the P38 i had 10yrs ago, but that was partly more cause it was quite useful lifting the whole car, as opposed to just the rear end for the extra ground clearance....

By default on the D2 the SLS rear is lower than the coil spring rear (61.5mm vs 71.5mm bump stop gap respectively), when you press the ORM button it is then higher than the coil spring rear (increasing the gap to 100.5mm).

Thats quite a big lift up, 40mm or so....will have to try it at some point soon then.

Just out of interest, does anyone know why they didn't do, or offer the D2 with the same all-round air bag suspension as the P38 ?

    Thanks again.

Cost would probably be the main reason. Also if Disco had all RR features no one would buy a RR.

This is why Disco is often referred to as a poor mans Range Rover.

As for the OP. I have a two inch lift in mine and I often use the extra 40 mm available. The D2 has a fairly long overhang and with some serious spoon drains I have not yet banged my arse, on a lot of spots that have hung up other vehicles.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

With my 33" tyres and 3" lift I have still managed to damage the rear bar through catching it even when in ORM. I always use it when 4WDing.

Didn't know you could get that much lift out of the air bags on top of a lift kit. impressive!

Ok, yes they'd need to differentiate between the models significantly i guess.... but then again, two of the reasons i chose a D2 over another P38 was that it has 7 seats and better load capacity. Cheers.
