Auto M&S P0705 after disconnecting gear lever

    Hi Folks,

I had to take my centre console out and therefore disconnect the auto switch. Now it's flashing M&S with the P0705 error.

    A few questions:

The plug that reconnects to the gear stick/selector can also connect to another behind the electric window switches. Is this supposed to be disconnected on the auto and those two connect directly on the manual?

My plug doesn't look like the one at www.discovery2.co.uk/Factory Diff Lock about a quarter of the way down.

Clearing the fault it comes back straight away.

Does anybody have any pointers please? The car was driving fine before this.

The P0705 diagnostic trouble code (DTC) refers to a switch either external or internal on the transmission whose function is to signal the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or the Transmission Control Module (TCM) as to the gear shift position -- P, R,N and D positions (park, reverse, neutral, and drive). The backup lights may also function through the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) if it is an external component

I assume these are not connected together rather the female one connects to the bit that goes around the gear lever with the lights on

I was being an idiot. Had one plug hidden under the carpet. That was a waste of a few hours.

Jake. I feel your pain. I had a similar experience with SWMBO's fairlane trying to get the CD stacker in the boot to work. I spent hours and hours over many days, only to find I had left one of many plugs that went into the back of the head unit off.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."
