has anyone had problems after replacing their trailer lights with LEDs?
Took my trailer in to trailer mob after my left indicator stopped working (had old school supercheap auto light fixtures). I'd tried changing out the globe, and also replaced the entire fitting, but still had no left indicator.
I told the trailer people that I didn't think it was the light end, but something in the wiring elsewhere, would they check that first and only replace the lights if nothing else showed.
$132 later,I have nice new LEDs, and first thing they did when plugged in to the disco, was NOT work. Not a one. They plugged it in to one of their vehicles to show me that all was working, and said it was because I had a landrover (that theyd seen the same problem with a Merc the week before) and indicated it needed... something (('m assuming a talk with a nanocom or similar) before it would recognise the light upgrade.
By now I had my grumpy face on; 'that might have been something I'd have liked to know before I agreed to your LED upgrade'
'I dropped the trailer off in this car, you didn't think to mention it then?'
They asked what I wanted to do and I said I'd take the thing home, that I didn't have $132 to waste on something that didnt work, and perhaps in future they might like to ask the relevant questions before hand. Drove in with most working and drove out with nothing working...
anyway - by the time I got home, for some dumb reason (I'm a chronic pessimist yet.. I tried) they all worked. So - do the Discos have to adjust when this sort of change is made, or will I still have to get a talking to via a computer. Or was I right in the first place, there had been nothing wrong wtih my damn lights, and I better get a new plug and do it myself like I did the last time (which is what I'd have liked the trailer people to do first before stinging me for new lights if I didn't need them)...? I had already ruled out vehicle outlet problem with a visit to an autoelec (he tested all ports working fine)

Both my trailers run LED lights without a problem.
On your problem. If all lights didn't work I would say your earth in the car had a poor connection. Over the years I have seen some strange or very lazy or dodgy wiring especially earth. Some even use the tow ball as the earth..
That's where I'd start..

SupporterI think it is an earth issue as well you will need to check all connections on the car and trailer plugs as it may be intermittent and was making a good contact when the auto elec tested it

SubscriberI fyou have a 7pin flat socket and plug, its very easy to compress the pins in the plug so that they become intermittent.
IMHO the FIRST thing to do is to spray some contact cleaner into the socket, then get a thin knife and open up the slits in the trailer plug, not too much but so it is tight to plug in.
For some reason, and it may be the way I plug it in, my LH indicator always seem to be the one that doesn't work. I have checkd all the connections and it is just the plug pins.
I now have Supercheap LEDS and they do the same as the previous festoon type NARVA lights. Thereis nothing about a D2 that can cause it.

Another vote for an earth issue.
I will lay money on them having grounded the earth wires for the LED's to a part of the body on the trailer.
When I replaced my trailer lights, I ran the earth right to the plug, and never had an issue.

Correct as a electrician over many years I have seen this problem raise it head...Start with cleaning up your trailer light fittings and associated wiring terminations and work back to the trailer plugs. Then ensure you are using the earth pins on both fittings (there is no corrosion etc) then ensure the vehicle side of the plug has a sound earthing point (connected directly to the vehicle)

THis is supposed professional install now.. knew where everything was before when it was my own crummy job (which, btw, never failed for years)... not sure where to begin with whatever the 'professionals' did. The lights are brand new.

Take it back and ask them to show you where they earthed the lights

There's nothing in any D2 ECU that needs changing to make work. It's just lights, same as what was there, just with less resistance than a std globe. At most (if they are not built into the lIght fittings) a resistor needs to be run across to dissipate thee additional current not required that may cause the LED lights to flash rapidly.
+ Eleventy for an earth or flitting pin issue. Do you have a multi meter? If not, good $15 investment at super cheap, dick smith etc. Allows you to check the earth and power supply yourself and diagnose what the issue is.
Finally, I hope you didn't pay them.

My money is on a loose/dirty pin or broken wire on the vehicle plug.
Use a test light or multi meter and check for power at pin/s 1 or 2 depending on if it's 5 or 7 pin plug set up.
It should earth through pin 3 so check it too.
If you have power spread the pins and try the trailer.
As others have said there is no computer that needs to be hooked up.
I've just put LED's on my new(to me) trailer and all works fine on my D2.
