    D1 and D2 diffrences ...

Hi guys i currently own a 99 D1v8 and am looking to get a diesel (td5)as i want a longer range (i have gas and only a 30ltr petrol tank). Please this is not meant to be a flame war , id just like more info on the series (ive seen some nice 2001,2002 models) like suspension and fuel economy , and experiences . i live in Mount Isa so as you can imagine everything is a long drive . thanks a lot !

D2 has a larger cargo area.
Traction control, ABS, Hill Decent Control
Early ones have no CDL lever, easy to replace
Some early to mid ones have no CDL internals, not so easy to replace
Option of Air Suspension and ACE
Td5 is a much more powerful and refined motor than the 300tdi diesel, but also probably more expensive when big things go wrong. A good Td5 will see the economy that a 300tdi normally gets, but not better.
Lots of Td5 niggly issues, very few show stoppers.
Remapped Td5 will be a delight to drive.

D2 has watts link arse end.
Has open style front CV's and ball joints not swivel ball.
    Has climate control
Has double cardon joint in front tailshaft.
Has all different panels except for rear door.
    Has an electronically controlled auto.
Has lots more things to go wrong.
and contary to what Muppet said, no D2 has air suspension. They can have SLS.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

    Semantics.
Self Leveling Suspension. Utilising what, exactly? Air.
It's not full air suspension, I'll give you that.

The D1 uses the Range Rover Classic chassis and has common wheel stud pattern as earlier Series and RR vehicles, the D2 has wheel stud pattern common to the P38a Range Rover, the D1 has a 100 inch wheel base where as the D2 & P38a have a 108 inch wheel base.

RRC LSE has a 108" wheelbase.
D3 and D4 have a bit more still.
    D2 is still 100"

I agree! They have more overhang, but I don't think the wheelbase has changed from the D1.

It hasn't. Both 100 inch, although my D2 is a bit less than 100

I love my 95 d1 v8...its going to my eldest son soon to start a new set of adventures at 290000. But my 02 d2 v8 is a better vehicle.

D2 has a wider track but same wherlbase. As said different suspension and they handle much better. Ride is not as 'Boulevard' as the yanks would say but i prefer stiffer suspension.

Electronics are nicely sorted and wabco abs is easily sorted with help on this site.

    Cheers
