    Correct.

Epic dragon. If your engine is chipped or ECU remapped the reason for more performance is more fuel. If over fuelled this will cause black smoke.

Now this will also cause high EGT's. Running high EGT will do damage possibly melting pistons. It is easy to avoid. Get an EGT gauge with an alarm. Preset the alarm at a temp a bit below max safe level.

If the alarm goes off it is just a matter of lifting the loud pedal a bit and your EGT will instantly lower, before any damage is done.

Find an EGT gauge and get it fitted. Running a tune on a Td5 with no EGT gauge, particularly in applications like towing which I'd hazard a guess that you do a bit of, can cause significant damage as Dave says above.

If you're running the tune previously mentioned, then yes, they like to run hot, and they will smoke.

Get that EGT gauge on there stat! And disconnecting the battery will be fine.
Also look into finding a D2a intercooler to help off-set the increase in EGTs you'll see from the ECU.
    Cheers

Thanks yeah i do plan on getting a d2a intercooler. I got it tuned as was so sluggish to go wasnt heaps safe pulling out on the country roads i live with blind corners etc. I do tow, also like to go off road. Never push my car too hard though but im not slow either. Are there other tunes that do not smoke? Small price to pay i suppose when it does go a lot better. Much safer have to find egt Guage and d2a intercooler.

Invest in a proper large intercooler. With just a large I/C and no remap summer heat didn't cause mine's performance to be curtailed nor did the heat affect it with the remap. Never had any exhaust manifold dramas either.
