Agree with you Pedro, that is one neglected engine, I have never seen that with an engine with regular oil changes.
The oil galleries in the block are probably the same

K100kms? did it ever get serviced during that time, that is disgusting for a low km engine.
This is my old D1 engine with 250K on the clock, regular oil changes. It was dual fuel

wonder how long that valve seat has been like that,If it was blowing into the tappet covers it wouldn't take long to gunk up.

I'm pretty sure it happened when it overheated. It wasnt noisy before this.

    Lower intake manifold gasket.

I'm about to put on the new manifold gasket and I'm not sure where to put the sealant, or as the RAVE calls it RTV.

The two manifolds from the new and old engines had sealant in different places.

The old motor had sealant in the notches only (black and hard like silastic).

The new motor had sealant along the webs under the rubber gaskets and around the water ports on the front but not on the back (red and soft).

    All help and suggestions welcome.

What sort of gasket? Rubber underneath or just tin.

If just tin I would put it pretty generously around the notches and I used to spray Hylomar blue all along the port faces and around the water holes.

If rubber just around the notches.

BTW, just check the length of the rubber end pieces as they are often /normally too long and need a bit trimmed off each end so that they fit properly or they may jack out and you have a leak.

Rubber under tin (the tin has a coating on it) then clamp.

The rubber gaskets are a bit long, I was just going to squish it in, but trimming it sounds like a better idea.
