Do you routinely engage in human sacrifice?
Avoid driving near black cats?
Refuse to carry a ladder on top of the car?
Never drive it on friday the 13th?
Any other random superstitions?
Luck, Bob. You can't quantify head gasket failures. You got lucky. Also...
Your head gasket would have been swapped when the dowels were replaced.

No Bob I do not have a chip.
It has 295K on the clock But I Have no idea if the head has been off before.
Nick.
It's been pointed out to me that my missing clips, brackets, rear acoustic cover, etc are indicators that the head has probably been off at some point.
Which is good![]()
255k kms here![]()
I use paddock spares in the UK for a lot of my stuff. They are cheaper generally even after you add freight and they generally get it here in under a week. Never had an issue with them,.
Otherwise I use Rovacraft in Sydney, cheap reliable and good service. Personally i dont even bother calling British Offroad anymore because they are generally 30% more expensive then anywhere else.
2 yrs ago my head gasket went at around 240k.
it had plastic dowels and I had had 3 very heavy hits on kangaroos and one cow in the two years previous to that.
so I'm guessing the plastic dowels had let the head move.....they were rat**** when the head came off.
I had the option of fitting a brandnew head which I did , so I have a spare now.
