I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
The dowels should have been replaced under warranty, early in the piece. The same as the oil pump bolt problem. I say again, my D2 is a 1999 build, delivered to Aus. in 2000. How many people have been ripped off, because
1 they do not know their vehicle
and
2. the stealers know that
Looking forward to a reply. Cheers Bob

The dowels were never replaced on their own under warranty. They were only replaced as part of a head gasket replacement repair. If the head didn't need to come off, the dowels weren't touched. Even if the owner knew about the issue, LR wouldn't just replace them without due cause.
The oil pump problem, in my experience, wasn't an issue when the cars were in the warranty period. It only seemed to rear it's head when the cars were 5+ years old in the failures I've come across (only on here, I don't recall one at dealership level).

Thanks for that, I have the maintenance history of my D2. 3 owners. Wollongong council, Engineers vehicle. Then a pedantic Englishman. From the Council, the head dowels were replaced, supposedly because of a LR bulletin. The pedantic Englishman checked the oil pump. Either way, it does not answer my question of why I have over 300,000 km's, no problem, and members are having problems , what are they doing I am not. Bob

I can think of two reasons :
1. Not all td5's have had pedantic owners and
2. There are still a lot of td5's out there with plastic dowels.
Mine came with a FSH but the previous owner from new certainly showed it no mechanical sympathy. To him it was just a tool to get the job done.

Bob, you have not had a head gasket issue as it has already been replaced

OK, once more ,just for you Bob , the other members you are alluding to are having problems because their plastic head dowels are failing, once they have replaced them they will also (with correct maintenance) achieve well over 300 000 k . By the way , have you found your other aircon drain yet![]()
