    Angry landy d2 behaving badly

    Hi all new to landrovers*
Bought one last week. With a "supposed light miss"
The tool who had it had said, he was out messing around in sand
And his airbox piping got hot and melted.
He sortend it and never replaced the air filter (removed it completely ).
I proceeded to drive it home some 70kms away about half way there on the hwy i was loosing power, and couldnt get much over 55kph*
I rang a friend and i asked wtf and he said to replace my leads an plugs*
, and coil packs it ran better but,
Still missin but not as much and stank of fuel with a very cherry red lhs cat any suggestions i also have the poxy 3 amigos goin on too .

If your cat is glowing red I'd say the oxygen sensor on that side is stuffed allowing full rich mixture. The cat will probably be melted inside too.

Hate to say this mate, but I wouldn't have gone any where near that car!

Running an engine without an air filter? What an idiot. You'd have to suspect that it has had its lungs full of every piece of crap out there. The fact that the piping and airbox were melted..... I really don't think I'll say anymore

Agree with Bee-utey, those cats are expensive, a glowed red one I removed and I could shake the the pipe and hear marbles like sound rattling around, shook the exhaust pipes on the cat and got lots of cat pieces falling out. once the cats are broken and melted they also restrict the flow of exhaust gases, so poor running also

    Hey roverlord
Hmm i was certain i killed the cat after the drive home
    After looking back on things.
However i was thinkin of maybe punchin out the cats an let it free flow.. my 5.0l fairlane has that setup and it runs good.
    Any ideas guys greatly appreciated.

It doesn't sound like the cat is the problem
Removing it will not cure the problem if the sensor is u/s
I would be concerned about what else has melted due to over fuelling and definitely not compare that engine to a Ford Fairlane!!!

    Wink

Easy phill , im not comparing it it my trusted daily.
It was just a thought as for what else it melted its nothing,
How it happened i belive was due to a failed coil pack and blocked mass air flow sensor.

    There is no comparing a 5.0 windsor to a rover 4.0 V8
The ford wins in every way

Punching out the cats, is difficult as the pipes are off set, I tried it and couldn't get it fully clear and had a rattle that drove me crazy.
