Now using to small bits of wire make a hook at one end to lift clutch pack out as there is a o ring that is behind the small circlip hiding behind a washer this grips the shaft so a few up down movements required

Now the next bit is tricker without the proper service tool and all my pullers are to large to clamp onto the intermediate shaft so found that two screw drivers placed as shown in photo, then carefully lever it up work your way up in stages supporting the bottom at all times.

Another way would be to leave two small counter sunk screws that were removed at the start then rotate the trans on engine stand and let gravity do the work will do that on the BMW trans this arvo.

Now to remove the 4th gear planetary set turn trans on side and slide out, there are thrust bearings and washers to watch out for and some washers only go on one way so be careful, now This bit I will need to take over to fit to the hp24 assemblies.

This is the step I was referring to below. It makes it easier to remove:

    Take note:

After you remove the valve body you will notice in the auto housing there are springs held in with circlips. Take notice of the size of the spring as you remove them as some are different size to the others. Once you have removed these 5 or 6 springs you will also need to remove the rubber seals at the bottom of each spring. (One of these rubber seals is different to the others.) If you don't it will be very very difficult to remove the internals of the auto. I removed them with a long 4mm or 5mm masonry drill bit. (obviously not with it attached to a drill)

Take note of any plastic internal parts, early or late autos had metal internals you can use. E.G the oil pickup is metal rather then plastic in either the early or late models. I can't remember which one.

One last thing - You're going to get auto trans fluid everywhere, it continues to leak everywhere for ages. Keep everything exceptionally clean, you'll also notice the internals look shadow chrome to being with, once clean you will realize they are in fact silver in colour.

    Good luck!

Yes jazzman is right I had not removed the three rear seals needed a longer screw a 12G sheet metal screw worked a treat for me 65mm long is ideal to reach the rear three seals, here is a pic of those seals with springs and circlips, yes got to keep things clean lint free cloth I have a parts washer a a few cans of brake clean.

Here is the fourth gear set out of trans now will strip the BMW trans and lay everything out side by side and reseal and replace some of the clutch packs, looks like I will be using the oil pump and A clutch pack from the BMW trans as the cost of oil pump is around the $1000 mark. Dropped off the drive shafts to be modified as needed.

Will check out a hyd mob might be able to join the pipes using pipe ferrules good for hyd pressure as long as pipe is standard tubing should be good.

I will have parts left over like the A clutch pack with new up rated clutch plates and steels this has one extra clutch plate and steel. Will see what else I have left over will be some new and old parts so drop me a line if you need anything.

will take a pick of the left over parts at end of rebuild.
