    TD5 EGT

I've recently fitted a SAAS EGT gauge. The temp prob is in the exhaust manifold right before the turbo.

With my remap it reads 900 degrees at approx. 4000 rpm at full throttle. With the standard map the EGT during the same test is 720 degrees.

Somewhere on this forum I read that 720 degrees is the max and heading into dangerous territory. If that is the case why would my standard map reach that high?

Is there a chance the gauge is inaccurate and reading high? How on earth could I test it? I can't exactly heat water to 500 degrees and drop it in.

Try increasing the boost if you haven't already done so , if you have a nanocom or similar , shorten the rod until you get around 1.35 bar , keep in mind that if the temperature outside drops too much after you set it then it may still over boost, then go for a drive and make sure this has had the desired effect , there are other ways to drop egt ( bigger and / or clean intercooler , freer flowing exhaust , boost box etc . yep ,900 is bad.

What map, if you don't mind me asking?
    Any supporting mods?
And given that 4000 rpm is working the car fairly hard I'm not surprised you hit that with a standard map. There's a reason we don't sit at 4000rpm all day

    Mods:
I bypassed and disconnected the boost control valve thing between the turbo and the intercooler pipe and turned the boost down because I was getting large boost fluctuations at 3K RPM. After disconnecting and bypassing the valve thing these fluctuations have gone. - Suspect faulty boost actuator.

Centre muffler removed and replaced with straight pipe.

    TJM Alloy roof rack

    Remap:
About 18 PSI (according to my boost gauge) or about 1.1 on Nanocom.

    Standard map:
About 15 PSI (according to my boost gauge) or about 0.95 on Nanocom.

I don't particularly want to name who did the remap as I do not want to tarnish their name. I do not feel it is a remap problem at this stage and don't want people to jump to the conclusion it is poor remap. If it does turn out to be a remap issue i'll contact them and discuss.

sure you can you just have to keep it at about 300bar of pressure.....

or you could just grab a hot air gun with a calibrated temp gauge on it or use a hot air gun and a digital thermometer or you could hold it in the flame of a map gas torch or a butanre torch and do the same.

I did suspect running lower boost may have contributed to the EGT i just didn't expect them to be this high and have such a dramatic effect.

You are a champion - I'm an electronics tech and use hot air guns at work all the time. I feel stupid for not thinking of it.

New modulator and find a larger IC, will knock them down a bit.

I know it seems extreme driving around at 4000 RPM. i'm obviously not doing this, but it is easy to get 650 - 700 degrees just driving down the freeway with cruise control on even with the factory engine map.

    It just doesn't seem right.
