Do you want to relocate the fuel flap release switch from the binnacle there? ... or what exactly do you want instead of that blank switch?

I have a D2a, in that model the fuel flap release is up on the binnacle leaving that space blank.
can you buy a single push switch like the other 5?

Yes, if you want a latching switch with on indicator the Puma Defender heat seat switch (YUF500150LNF) is what you want.

I'll definitely know when its on.
its to switch two LED temp readouts I'm sticking up on the dash.
The concern is how bright they might be at night, hence the switch
I'm thinking(had to start sooner or later) any of the originals should just click in,, should be heaps around

is there a trick to releasing the switch block?

The switch block is part of the dash, so you remove individual switches.

Two ways I've used,

1. Small screwdriver and CAREFULLY prise the switch out, this works well if blanks a bit scary if the actual switch. One one switch is out you can then get you finger in the hole to push out the others, providing your fingers don't resemble sausages

2. Pop the HVAC controls out you can then get your hand/fingers behind the switch(s) and push out.

the whole assy of 6 switches comes out as a complete unit if U like, slide a credit card or similar in the top and bottom, this releases 2 tabs (2 top 2 bottom) and lets the whle lot come out.
same with the clock.

Yep, credit cards in, and it should pop right out. Can be fiddly getting the 2nd card in.
When I stuck my low coolant led in I fed the wire through and pulled the individual switch out, just push the switch on top in to get the fingertips in and pull it forwards. Then use a small screwdriver to lift the blank cap off.
