IMO if you are fitting additional sensors do the job as to bring you closer to the reality, i mean the engine coolant temp sensor signal is VERY important for the engine management and all you can see is the gauge which goes to the middle at 70*C and up from there at 120, what's between these temps is mystery without an additional sensor, it's vital part of the addaptive strategy so fit your sensor as close to the original ECT sensor as possible, for that you might find some kind of fitting to hold the sensor and screw it into the elbow near the ECT sensor, see how i did with mine just that my sensor was screwable, only a hole and a thread in the elbow is needed(off course if you decide to do that remove the elbow to not let debris into the engine)
