assuming td5?
I did an oil change on my disco yesterday and all went well and disco started and ran well
and oil levels up to where thy should be.
Then went to replace fuel filter , unclipped the water sensor and unscrewed sensor, some diesel came out found out i had been sent the wrong filter so redid sensor and put back wiring , turned on ignition and the fuel pump fired up ,when i went to start engine it turned over a few times and did not fire so reset ignition and started again fuel pump working or sounds like it is ,next time i tried to fire up engine nothing nothing happened , still have a dash of lights every thing seems to be working fine except power getting to starter motor, its never done this before , just want to see if any thing i am doing wrong, this if the first time i have touched any thing to do with the fuel, as i said after oil change all was well
any info out there, only thing i have not tried yet is to try pull starting
assuming td5?

Ypu need to google td5 bleed cycle and bleed the air from the system. Do it twice and then it should start.
This should work, except i thought if the bleed cycle was not done the engine would turn over but it wouldn't start.
In this case he has only dash lights. I don't know about the water sensor, but i'd be guessing it has something to do with it. Double check the wiring if you have not already and clean the terminals.
Also try to start it in neutral rather than park (assuming it is auto) to rule out a XYZ switch on the auto. If this is the case it has nothing to do with your oil change, the gods must be crazy, and they are playing with you.
have managed to pull start ,engine fired up first time
but still nothing from starter motor if trying to start from ignition, just had battery tested its ok fully powered , looks like a trip to auto electrician next week to get wiring and starter motor looked at
Test for power at the little white(from memory) plug at the starter when the key is tuned.
Sounds like the starter soliniod contacts have worn, a common issue.
A search should bring up a how to thread if you want to DIY.
I have had a bad connection of the control wire to the starter solenoid. It was oil soaked and dirt had compromised the connection. Remove the plug, spray with contact cleaner, see if it is sloppy on the spade and adjust if necessary. Mine was good to go after this and is still fine 2 years after.
Second the fuel purge procedure.
Turn ignition to ON, then push accel pedal to floor 5 times within about 5-7 seconds. The fuel pump will start and run for a minute or so.
Good luck

Well i finally got my Disco to an auto electrician yesterday , and it was not good news , have to have a new starter motor, old one cant be fixed , so another $500 plus labour
so not a great start to new year
Ask for it to be checked.
90%+ times its only soliniod contacts that they should have in stock.
