    Theres something wrong there....

high RPM and low throttle demand should be low temp on the probe...

the concept of flames out the ports is sound in theory but it just shouldnt be happening, I could buy into it more if #1 was loosing some compression out the exhaust valve.

if everything else was mickey mouse about the only thing I can think of that would cause what you're seeing is if it was getting late injections to keep the fire burning. Sometimes its done deliberately to up the exhaust temp/pressure to keep the power up for the turbo without hugely increasing the actual cylinder pressures and temps inside the engine and for doing DPF regen burns.

I'm just not aware of anyone advertising it up on a td5 and given the build and design of the head its not one of the things I'd be doing to a td5 as a means of getting better performance out of the turbo until a whole lot of other things were already done.

Hmm looks a bit like the tail wagging the dog

From the angle the pic was taken an F250 would be just about right as a tug.

    As already mentioned...
High (er) rpm and light load should be seeing lower temperature, but saying that compared to what... 3 ton in anyones book is a decent tow...

EGT are a guide to compare and determine if fuel/air ratios are good or have been increased etc etc... While I know Gav's D2 has had a re-map I dont know who did it, but from memory I didnt think it was too wild or aggressive and dont remember seeing clouds of black smoke coming from it, but no doubt will have to check over it.

Again, likely to start with the basics such as checking cooling system, viscous fan.

A lower lock up on the torque converter isnt going to assist the engine temps and will likely increase them.

my comment was intended for MR LR, having driven Gavins disco and seen his driving style the 450 on the hill makes some sense if he was accelerating up the hill but Id be worried if that was just trying to sustain speed (assuming it was in the same loadout as when I was driving it)

Overall I was impressed with the vehicle and with a very few minor things consider it to be the bar by which all 200K KM+ td5 D2 autos should be judged.

One of the other things I was going to suggest is to temporarily drop it onto stock height rubber and see what it does..

I was looking forwards to getting the chance to haul the van from the supplier to gavs place and see how it all worked, IT honestly felt like it was going to have what was needed to do the work.

Oh Gav, you must have left the house out in the rain.... its shrunk, looks like a medium sized shed now :P

On a serious note though.... in ref to the flat front of the van, can you get them front plastic domes like they fit to pantec truck backs?

    Gentlemen, .
The front of the van is not flat like a brick, but well scalloped and a bit like those fibreglass aerodynamic thingies on some trucks.
This actually becomes the pitched roof for the fold up/fold down/fold out front veranda over the A frame - for elevenses, afternoon tea, or even a coldie.
Effectively converts a normal 20 foot van to 26 feet with a semi sheltered front veranda only accessible from the van interior.
And no, I don't need any jokes about 26 feet on the floor being to many to fit with socks

We purchased an aluminium rad on eBay (ASI performance), all I had to do is modify 1 mount as it interfered with the intercooler. You can get a set (rad and intercooler) from the UK for just a little more.

I indeed my first thought on seeIng the frontal aspect was a brick and its aerodynamic qualities

Opening up the front to form a verandah is certainly a unique concept. However on reflection what advantages does it offer to sitting under the side awning? Maybe a play pen for the dog or a viewing platform to salute the other nomads?

    Cheers
