    Alpine Light Collapse

It's been an interesting morning ...

After an early morning call from a mate with a Disco II who suffered loss of all forward gears just outside Dubbo (heading for Parkes) I headed off in my DII down to my tame battery supplier to get a new start battery for the V8 DI. On the way back up the Southern Expressway to work there was a load bang from the back and the sound of something showering over the road. Vehicle continued driving fine but Inspektor Rex in the load space at the back looked a bit startled.

I got to work and walked around the vehicle to see what had happened, assuming I had driven over something - all looked good looking around towards ground level. Then I opened the rear door to let Rex out for a drink and a pee - I noticed a bit of shattered glass on the floor in the back. Then I looked up and found the alpine light mostly gone!

A good look outside and it would appear to me that the roof rack (an ARB half-rack) on the roof has stressed the opening around the alpine light and caused the glass to shatter with the additional wind-load from driving at 100km/hr on the expressway being the final straw.

Still better it happens here where I can get it repaired than on the highway heading up to Melrose next weekend!

Spoke to Brenton and Phil at TR Spares in Lonsdale and they're getting a good glass cut out of one of the DII's in the yard and I've got the boys at Complete Windscreens in Prospect (who have 4 disco's themselves) tee'd up to fit it next week.

I'm hoping the rest of the day goes down with rather less drama.

After waiting 6 weeks for my winch bar to finally arrive at ARB Geraldton I have just been informed that it will be another 2 weeks before they will be able to fit it.

I am Not that impressed with the service provided especially as I paid "Up Front" for the bar and fitting fee

My replacement timing cover went on, and the sump went back on. Not a fun job but not the worst. Oh and I found this

Yeah curious about it. I've not touched the sump before, and my mechanic didn't mention it. Thankfully I don't think it will cause any issues, but annoying none the less

Rather than replace it I guess the sensible option is to rip it all out and stick an M57 in there What happened to your Discovery 2 today?

I normally get all my work done at Whyatts, Great service reliable and professional.
I would have preferred that the fitting was done by Whyatts But if I have any dramas with the bar I wouldn't have any recourse so I will just have to wait for the Sluggish service at ARB to get the Bar fitted.
