It is to a degree - the rattle I was chasing at 2100rpm is still there after a quick test drive this morning but is reduced. Might have to live with it though as I think the only thing left it could be is the old “popped weld in the firewall” rattle that can only be solved by removing the dash.
Well that ain’t happening any time soon[emoji23]
The car is much smoother now up to and over 100kph. Almost don’t know its a diesel at freeway speeds.
Yep. My list of fails to date: tightened the handbrake, jammed rubber/foam between anything that could possibly rattle to see if it reduced (a frame pillar, all guards like exhaust, transmission etc etc), new engine mounts, new pulleys on motor, taken dash apart (partially), glove box out, carpet out, dual battery out and foam/rubber isolated all metal components, head torch inspection of all navigable places in engine, under car, in wheel wells - no evidence of rubbing, checked heat guard on engine mounts (tight obviously), exhaust manifold - flattened and reinforced, no turbo heat shield so cant be that, all ace pipes, brake pipes, air pipes, radiator pipes. And rattle is still there. Biggest impact on it was the new engine mounts. And that’s why I think it might be the firewall and a loose weld.
It’s somewhere under the dash or in the engine bay in front of the passenger. Does my head in!
Loose change in the glovebox?
Situated under the dash in front of the passenger, is the a/c or climate control cabin fan, I had a piece of plastic bag go in there, that caused a buzzing sound. The only other weird vibration sound I had on my D2 TD 5 was due to the E.G.R.
