So they can sell you a new bumper, of course! :bat:
Same reason they put those plastic end bits on the D1 bumpers - right where they land if you're rock-hopping! [thumbsupbig]

Actually as I found when I went to cut mine up, the rear plastic bumper is most brittle on top and quite flexible where the sun don't shine.
It looks like the Poms din't consider sun damage when they specified the plasticisers etc.
I don't know if all plastic bumpers go brittle but the D2 ones sure do and its all down to sun damage.
I remember a panel beater mate of mine swore by lathering ATF all over XY Falcon Dashes and claimed it softened them up again.

Poor Daisy got rear ended today, 5 minutes from home, after a trip to a few kms south of Williamsdale, ACT and back to Williamstown, Vic. The car that hit me, a Mazda 6 has about $3,000 worth of damage. Poor Daisy, has the LHS rear bumper, about 5mm closer to the body. At minimum I need a large amount of trim clips, maybe a bit of work on the mounting bracket.
Poor Daisy, only came back 2 weeks ago after being shirt fronted, ruining the bull bar crush cans etc. I hope to get the money from their insurance company and fix it my self. Maybe with a metal rear bumper bar.
Just returned from 4 days in the VHC .
A bit of snow and some sunshine from 1 degree in the snow to 24 degree`s at Chesters Hut with the only issue being a damaged tubeless valve stem [bighmmm]

And back in Adelaide... haven’t checked the fuel numbers but will be <10l/100km. Interesting the trans stayed in the 90’s most of the way topping it at 101 in 32 degrees.
No coolant or oil used.
Go Disco!
The rear bumper on my D2a is slowly flaking away due to UV damage and the occasional nudge when I back up to the boat trailer.
I will be fitting a steel one when i get back from this trip.
I have been giving the old girl a bit of a work out lately on some of the dry and cracked up blacksoil traks in the Gulf and she hasnt missed a beat so obviously the crappy plastic bumper doesn't affect the reliability or performance of the old girl[biggrin]
