I did an oil and filter change yesterday and stupidly overfilled the sump, I was yakking to the Missus and just kept pouring the oil from the second 5l bottle so i ended up with a litre or so of extra oil in the sump.
No worries I thought I'll just take the drain plug out and drop a bit of oil thinking that will fix it, Then I go and drop the sump plug into the hot oil in the drain pan from the oil change and lost the entire lot of new oil.:wallbash:
Ah well at least I ended up with a really good flush of the sump But I wasn't that impressed with wasting $60-$70 worth of perfectly good oil.
I was going to fit another set of yokies But I wanted to fit a set of muddies for this next trip because some of the boat ramps I will be using can get pretty slippery at times and I struggled with the AT's last time I was there.
The only size I could get Yokohama MT's was 245/75/16 and I didn't want to fit that tall a tyre and the ATZ P3 Micky Thompson's came in the 245/70/16 size that I wanted with a nice aggressive tread pattern as they are a MT/AT hybrid.
I have only done a couple of hundred K's on the Mickey Thompson ATZ P3's so far and they are a bit noisier that the Geolander's I had on before But they do feel a bit more sure footed on the dirt.
I am doing a run to Perth and back over the next couple of days and it is going to be pretty wet tomorrow so I will be able to assess how these P3's handle the wet roads, The Geolander's were pretty good in wet conditions and I am hoping that the P3's are just as good or hopefully better.
Surprisingly the Micky Thompson's were about $50 a tyre cheaper that the Yokohama MT's.
Yes those would be an easy way to do an oil change But I am not that happy with the idea of it dangling below the sump and hitting something when I am off road.
It was definitely a "Seniors Moment" because I usually put the first 5l in then just top up until I get the right level on the dipstick, I also find it difficult to see the new oil on the dipstick as well.
Ooops
