Leaking FPR
I had a leaking FPR and I had booked it into Hunter & Cuthill for repair. Fast Freddie, on this forum pushed me to have a look at it. I did, the return pipe was loose. Tightened it up and cancelled the trip to Geelong. I did have a fair bit of work at a different Land Rover independant mrchanic, head gasket replace etc. I'm not blaming them, this was three years later. I think that this thing can just get loose.

With the pipe/hose that goes from FPR to front of head: brother got a full replacement FPR.
Came with all the goodies.
We removed the pipe hose combo, cut down the pipes used the FPR body end of that cut, flared the end a little(just a plumbers flaring tool was all I had). go some fuel hose.
For the front of the head end, of which the nut isn't accessed without removing manifold, the short bit of pipe that bolts onto the FPR with the quick release end fits into the threads/access where the bent pipe/hose goes. Cut the old one short enough to fit any socket onto it. For the new(old) pipe section, we got a long socket that fit the length of the pipe and reached the deep nut, than to get going just used double clamps for the hose ends.
I think that was last Nov(ish) .. many trips and, miles later .. no worries.
The only issue is that the pipe has too much length, so the hose comes too close to the alternator(I think, can't remember) and needs a bit of cable tying. Don't want to kink it too hard to block it.
But the long term mod was/is, that as the new pipe end at the front of the head has a quick release end, to get a 90° angled quick release hose fitting, barbed to grab onto the hose a lot better(even tho so far no issue).
This is only to address the hose clearances.
I have a philosophical issue with refitting stupidly designed bits back together where they don't make it any easier the next time it needs to be touched .. so if modding something to make it less painful is the way to go, then so be it.
Obviously the above doesn't address why the nut on the pipe comes loose tho .. just the fitting of the new hose, if this is also received with the FPR.

Yesterday I checked the FPR pipe again and realigned the pipe abit so it didn't rest on the oil dipstick tube. The tube tends to turn as you just get to tight.
I also replaced the rocker cover gasket once again as I have had a leak for years.
For once it seems to have worked as there was no 50cent puddle yesterday.
I don't think that the after market rocker cover gaskets ( in my case Bearmach) are good enough and next time I will get OEM or genuine. I cleaned up everything fastidiously this time and just used a bit of sealant at the ends of the camshaft semi circle.
While the FPR hose mod seems interesting, I am not convinced that the fuel hose fix is the way to go .Diesel is slippery stuff , and unless you have swaged the tube IMHO there is a possibility that over time the hose will slip off.The original on mine lasted 17plus years and 208KK. I will probably be long dead in another 17 years.

Finally Got my new d2a rebuilt after doing the head gasket and swapping parts onto it, now running bilstein 7100s, CR hybrid turbo, Serck IC, allisport manifold, 25psi boost and twin locked.
So happy with the way it runs, pulls hard from any gear and when overtaking the boost gauge keeps going almost to 28psi and the speed just increases,
Well worth the money and remap from Td5inside.. also its an manual so driving is much more fun :)

Nyce.....looks like a weapon off road☺

Re the fuel return hose, mine failed on a stretch of the Pacific somewhere north of Raymond Terrace, which I fixed the next day in the car park of SCA. At the time the car had only done 110,000km.
At the time I just used some high pressure fuel house and hose clamps, when I removed the egr I pulled the manifold to clean it and used Oetiker clamps to crimp it on, feeling they were a more permanent fix.

EGT probe failed, spent 10hrs driving listening to it beep every second, had to cover it over with a rag for the last 4 hours in the night as it flashes green red as well. Disconnected it the next morning. So the 2 days i wanted it working while flogging "Leaky" towing a trailer thru hills it wasn't working!

My Disco has an intermittent low battery voltage and it won't even turn the engine over. Sometimes days apart sometimes only an hour after stopping it. The current drain is .03 of an amp when I tested it. The auto electrician load tested the battery and said it was good. But being intermittent he also said the battery could be loosing a cell intermitently. Battery is just 18 months old. So I have just put another spare battery, I had sitting around, in the car for a test. Hope thats all it is. After the rebuild the V8 is running really well. My neighbour said the V8 sounds great coming down the street.

Not sure what Disco you have, but I believe the later ones have to be locked when parked or the electronics are still alive and repeatedly wake up to test the battery voltage and other systems, draining them. Have you been leaving it unlocked?
-
Mostly left unlocked yes. I have a 2001 D2 V8. Thanks for the heads up. I'll try locking it and see what eventuates. Mind you it never used to happen only started this a month ago. Still we'll see.
