If it's completely off expect an annoying whistle at 80+, just one of the little annoying things the previous owner neglected to fix on mine. Think a replacement is under a $100 with shipping.

Thanks - i need one for left hand side (has broken top clip) but the price makes me question the need vs a dab of sikaflex to secure it...

    Try gluing first.
Mine was broken right off, it lasted a lithe while using 2 part epoxy before failing.
Just not enough contact area on the clips.

Agree re the clip contact area - I thought to use a space filler ie a small square of high density foam (thong rubber) and Sikaflex each side as the adhesive.

Went down the street to do the shopping. A trek of about three k's each way. The trip down was totally uneventful but on the trip back, just as we started up the hill, there was a loud whistling sound. Bugger, I thought, exhaust manifold gasket and one or more manifold studs. When the thing had cooled down I checked and there were no broken studs or evidence of exhaust leaking from around the manifold.
It turns out that I was looking in the wrong place. The gasket between the manifold and the turbo is leaking and there was a missing nut.
Different, eh ? I've not read about one of these failing yet... Shouldn't be too big a job if I can get at the bottom two nuts and if none of the studs break.
Oh well, such is Land Rover life I suppose.

[QUOTE=Kaaaiju;2997454]Got this bad boy for my td5

Pics of spiffy new AMC head deleted[

    /QUOTE]

I assume that you're changing the head. While you've got it in bits do the timing chain tensioner. I had the head of my old Td5 replaced and about 20k km's later the timing chain tensioner let go which basically wrecked the engine - head and all.
