I manged to pull in and bloody diesel everywhere out of the engine bay.
Pulled off the sound shroud and it was ****ing out of the FPR.
I started up and saw it was coming out of the union where the hose goes to the front of the head. A few weeks ago I changed the FPR and it didn't leak at all.
The union was loose so I tightened it and the leak stopped but I lost 10-20 litres and under the car and the back is covered.

Are these known to undo, or was it falsely tight , not being straight on the socket. I suspect that it was not fully tight, then loosened of just a bit allowing fuel past the oring. I suspect that the fact that the open end spanners I had would hit the side of the head with the limited rotation may have misled me.
Only took about 20minutes to fix and get going, so while it was a PITA it cost nothing except the lost diesel.

    Regards PhilipA
Wait till you get the bill from the RMS, before trumpeting about a cheap fix.

P.S. They probably had no idea who destroyed carriageway until you blurted it out, here.

I had better not say where , but I was able to get off the road for the fix.
I didn't have any brushes to clean up, but it will soak in.

It didn't go as far forward AFAIK. It sprayed upwards into the acoustic cover.( which I cleaned with kitchen detergent and water before replacing.)

On reflection I think that the pipe was fully in and the oring sealing , but the nut was not fully tight.
Over time the pipe was forced out by the pressure so the oring didn't seal, however I am pretty sure that it was probably only leaking slightly until it let go.
It gave no inkling of the problem until I could smell diesel and someone beside me gesticulated. There was a service vehicle ahead of me with a diesel tank on the back and I thought the smell came from it.

Failures with the fuel return hose r common and the front connection requires a crows foot spanner to get tight too. Mine went 300ks from home but luckily a local garage had one on the shelf. ...why...cause he'd done heaps of them so always kept a spare. Cost 160 bucks all up. . Back on the road within 2 hours.

Prolly one to keep an eye on and replace eg after 7 years or so.

I just replaced the whole FPR including the front pipe a few weeks ago.(PITA as you have to remove the inlet manifold.)
I thought I would see how flexible the old one was and it snapped like a carrot with only a bit of pressure.
My car has done about 210KK, so any with more Ks are living on borrowed time. I had changed the gasket of the FPR and Orings etc a while ago, but the actual regulator became loose in its bore from the oring deteriorating causing a leak.

    long post....

ok here i go, purchased the disco 2 back in Feb of this year. full service history 280,000 k's on the clock.
it ticked all the boxes at the time, and a joy to drive. but this was going to be a bush basher.

on Standard rims fitted with 255/70/16 cooper AT's, sitting on 8x16 hurricain's

SLS and ACE fitted and working, or so i thought.

first i will start with the SLS.

My wife did not like the ride on the bags.........

went camping up Wombat with a mate. all went well for a while, none of the tracks were an issue (did nothing too extreme, as he drives a grand cherokee), then, over the radio, my mate said i was sitting really low at the back.
i admit, i had noticed the diff grounding out a bit more than usual.

we got to our camp and sure enough, the disco was sitting on the bump stops.

After water testing and taking the bags out for further inspection in bush, we found they were still good.
    Bloody compressor....
limped the Storm-trooper (thats what i call it, it never hits anything, but others manage to hit it, but its for off roading, so not too fussed)
i do some big trips, and the less to go wrong the better.
After a lot of forum trawling, and product reviews, i decided on Bilstein shox and Dobinsons progressive uprated springs, 2" lift.

Fitted without incident, and all was good in the storm-trooper world.

sourced a CDL lever from a D2a, installed said lever, then swore at it as the diff lock light wouldnt come on...

a few weeks later, i got round to adjusting said lever, swore some more at it, then a lot more. Read the forums,
did the checks, and found it was engaging. removed the terminals, cleaned, put put back on, and........ the light came on... hoooray for me...lol

Then off on a weekend camping trip..

The transmission hose blew off, big time.
I rust protected the underside and rear of the Storm-trooper with transmission fluid, along with a load of cars behind and half the Calder freeway. oh, it had been raining....

Repaired with 1/2" fuel injection hose, and 4 hose clamps... That will do for now, it was not going anywhere....lol

    Roll on Grand final weekend.....

after a really enjoyable 5 hour drive, i arrived at lake lascelles and pitched up camp...... still all good.

next day, a day of sand and Dunes, then arrived at our camp site in Big Desert.... all still good, the Storm-trooper behaved impeccably. next morning, -5 degrees, the Storm-trooper started, as always, with the first turn of the key.
so breakfast consumed, swag etc packed and we headed off for Boarder Track.

    The convoy,

driving on the blacktop and just as we were getting to the SA boarder, there was a bang... followed by clattering noise.... followed by smoke....lots of smoke... smoke signals telling me that the 110 kph i was doing, wouldnt last long, that and the battery light being on too, oh, and the ACE warning light too.

    got towed to Pinnaroo.

Nice place, if you have never been, and are driving through, please stop and support the local business.
Called RACV, total care is a wonderful thing.

well, The ACE pump had, for want for better words, ceased to be, it was an ex pump....

1 motel, and my wife driving to Pinnaroo to pick me up, i awaited RACV to bring my car home.

whilst waiting, i spoke to a Land Rover workshop, i wont name names, but BL00DY H3LL... $4000 just to remove the ace system, and fit std ARB's ...cue swearing, anger, tears, more swearing.
now, i would have been, well, not happy to pay that, but accepted it.

That is, until someone suggested i speak to Danny at the Landy Place.
i explained the situation, and after a reasonably long conversation, and discussing needs and budget, it was decided that the ACE had to go. it was too far gone. Shame i know...

Ok, back to RACV. 2 weeks after the Storm-trooper let go, i was informed that it would be delivered to an address of my choice. As HELL did not come up on their systems, i got them to deliver it to Danny.
Instead of HELL, they delivered it to The Landy Place.

Danny worked a miracle. i had my budget... $4000, i had allowed that for the other place to do the repairs, so i though what the hell, sort everything out...
    The list went like this....

Remove ACE..Every trace of it, and replace with used ARB's and new droplinks.
replace my temp repaired transmission line...
    replace the transmission cooler.
    Low coolant level alarm installed.
    New air filter.
    fan belt.
    Other hoses and ancillaries
Now, they were the essential bits,
    the following was also done...
    EGR Delete
    D2a intercooler fitted
NNN ECU Supplied with a Td5 Inside map

Now, while these works were being done, i had done some research about stability after the ACE is removed.

so, i ordered a set of 5 8x16 dynamic rims, and they were in turn, shod with 265/75/16 BFGoodrich K02's

Was i a happy bunny when it all came together???? your damn right i was.... i fell in love with the Storm-Trooper once more. a pure dream to drive...... until

    last sunday....
Brake peddle went rock hard, 2 foot braking here i come.
Texted Danny at The Landy Place. he responded... organized to be at his place Monday first thing...

so, by 12pm, the vacuum pump had been replaced, and all was good with the world once more.

Also replaced an oil impregnated loom and the rocker gasket.

ok, at this point, Danny had advised me that my battery was not in top condition.

So, today, i went to go fishing.......NOPE, that wasnt going to happen. Dead battery....i mean really dead...

invested in a yellow top Cranking/deep cycle battery.

    im now happy again.

    NOBODY SPOIL IT FOR ME....ok....lol
