SubscriberFuel Pump died today, and 300km from Melbourne doesn't help haha
Picked up the modified Auto Trans Cooler lines and modified connectors on the cooler itself. Wasn't what I expected and then had to get 90' bends, duh! Pretty sure they will not come apart now though.
The only two requirements to fit post this was had to flatten the power steering pipes underneath, the brackets sit quite high so got some self tappers and hose clamps to get them tight and sitting flat, the second was to make a T bracket to slot into the passenger side slot, pretty simple and sits tight. Fits perfectly with the SERK intercooler and cooler seems not a third bigger but about twice as big, think it is much preferable than fitting a secondary cooler. Oh have to get the temp gauge fitted back on, that's for the weekend.

Got a message this morning and a note when I got home, a CHRA I got for the D2a (was going to leave it stock I promise, but this, EGR delete and middle pipe will be all , and, a tune but that's it) was out for delivery, it was picked up Tuesday 18th...

Supporter4 new mounts to hold the engine/trans up, the engine mounts genuine as seemed too hard a job to do too often and the trans mounts aftermarket as still gotta watch the D2 budget.
I only removed the MAF and duct to turbo inlet on the passenger side and the drivers side was easy as coz no fuel cooler in the way.
On replacement I super glued the nuts on top of the engine mounts, as we all come up with improvs when working alone, so easy to start threading bolt from bottom but still jammed socket and spanner as needed to tighten.
I was considering welding the nuts on the new mounts but too lazy at the time.
There was a noticeable improvement as all the weird interior trim vibrations disappeared on startup, but I had a low pitch noise/hum and vibration emanating from the floor pan still. I thought it would go away once I replaced the trans mounts but it didn't so not quite there yet.
The passenger side trans mount took as long to do as it took to do the other 3 together. The trans would lift and touch the body somewhere and then everything moved up together, tried a few times moving the jack around to induce a slight twist but no go. In the end it was always a couple mm short of clearance so a lot of crazy contortions later it was swapped out with lots of cursing and thinking about it but no bashing bits.
Also have a couple disconnected pairs of cables under there , I have a cdl switch with nothing on the pins and another switch an inch or so further towards the front , I have searched online but all the pics I found so far show the cdl switch on the transfer case near the threaded post but not a second electrical switch like I have. Also a stray plug about inch and a half round hanging off a loom unplugged, looks like 4 slots in it.
Any ideas appreciated.

SupporterThe OMEs were a little worse for wear! So got a set of 994/995 Bilsteins for it.
20211023_153209_sml.jpg
One lower bush was completely knackered, and 994 is a touch longer(same length compressed)
20211023_174841_sml.jpg
Both rears were stuffed, passengers side more so .. although inconsequential .. both bad enough that any new shock would have made a huge difference.
All four OMEs had zero gas pressure, so easy to remove.
Total PITA to fit the new guys tho .. damned that LHS front tower is painfully located!
And now I figured out why the rear sounds so coarse, and loud banging over bumps! ... some previous guru has placed the rear rubbery rear spring isolators on the axle end of the spring, not up top where they can actually isolate spring to body noises and vibes!
Needless to say, ride is so much better.. but still not ideal. Feels like either springs(maybe one has fatigued more than others .. or maybe watts link is not right .. need to look into either of them, or both.
OH! and a very loud shout out to LRA for their brilliant service. While almost everything is taking months to get delivered, they had it to my door in two days .. ordered Tue night, arrived Fri. Oh! while that sounds 3-ish days, I watch on Wed to see if the money was transferred out of my account to theirs .. and that happened Wed .. so technically only 2 days from actual purchase to delivery ...

SupporterI'm thinking they must have been in stock, due to the speed of delivery.
Yep. longer travel, not just longer.
Closed length is same as OME but open length as seen in pics is longer .. maybe 1/2 to 1 inch longer at both ends.
from researching shocks for the D2.. I think the std travel Billies are BE5-6046/6047(front/rear)
The longer travel versions are the BE5 994/995(front/rear).
Look for the 994/995 options in this link to LRA.
I also found then for $225 at sparesbox when searching the net for them, but even if LRA was a few dollars more than them, I'd still have gone with LRA anyhow. Iin my previous dealings with them, they seem like good people.
Most other sources on the net have them in the high $200!
Cost of postage was $25, even tho I'm only two suburbs south of their new premises, and I could have got my lazy posterior off the PC desk chair and gone up there to collect for less overall cost .. etc...
In chasing down many knocks rattles and bumps .. I found the roof rack was a teeny bit loose(now tightened), and while I was doing that, I'm shaking the body(mainly sideways) I can hear the clunk sound of a worn watts link(I think).
On my test drive with new shocks fitted, ride is nice, but I have an uneven sideways, floaty feeling.
I have a run to work where the freeway section has many joints in the road at say 100k/h, and the new shocks have improved the ride/control over those joints 100% for sure. I used to get a small sidestep with the old shocks.
Got to say too tho, it sure does reveal the well set up suspension that the LR engineers have created with the D2 compared to any and every jap 4WD I've ever owned or driven.
Dads 60 series cruiser was a pile of junk .. with the new shocks he had fitted .. diabolical(axle tramping/tracking) before that!
As said, 3 of the shocks removed were dead for all money. RHF had an unconnected lower bushing, which in any other car I've driven would equate to huge vibes and shakes.
D2 did have a very mild steering wobble between 70-80 only.
New shocks made a very slight improvement now .. but at 80-ish there is still a small remnant of the slight wobble. Note it's not a wobble.. as in a death wobble .. just the slightest tremor through the steering wheel only .. not the body.
Could be a slightly worn steering shaft uni or something(can't feel any slack tho) .. or whatever.
Rear shocks have more than half their travel is slack! .. zero pressure, then as I go through the stroke, can feel it then build ever so slightly. No return pressure(which I've never seen in a gas shock) .. they just stay static to where it's set at.
Only one shock felt kind'a OK, passengers front, although it still has a small amount of slack in it's travel, but still rebound pressure in it.

						SupporterNah! sorry mate.
I had in on the deck there and then started looking for tape measure .. but no go. Damned if I can find anything in my shambolic shed at the moment ... damned nearly lost the D2 while it was in there!
Seriously spent about half an hour looking for it, and gave up so as to not take too long to do the shock job!
But I did find out some info on them from somewhere, can't remember where, but not LRA themselves. Maybe Bilstein or somewhere like that ... or it may have been from here.
